Everything LEGO thread!

Question... my local marketplace has a bunch of legos. Mainly want technics. I know there are fakes/replicas. What's the best way to know if it's fake? Does the box look the same? I'm watching some YouTube videos now on it.

 

I’ve bought a few sets off marketplace, as far as watching out for scammers just check their profile to see when they joined fb and the description used for the item. Usually helps weed out a lot of bs. As for the box and quality of Lego you can always screenshot it and ask people online. Either in this thread or join a few Lego groups on fb because the members in there are usually pros at spotting fakes.

I mean to me it looks legit, you can also ask the seller to send you a pic of the box with their name and date written down on a sheet of paper or something.

So what is the age recommendation based on? The PEUGEOT is 18+ w/ 1775 pieces. This is my son after about 4 hours; he's 7. Midway through bag 2 of 5. Besides helping press the big pieces together, he's done it all on his own. The Lego app is amazing. He pulls it up on his own, shows him step by step with 3D renderings from all angles. I'm really impressed with the app. If this is how all the 18+ sets are, I'll just buy them moving forward rather than the smaller stuff for his age that he finishes in under an hour for $20-$50.

 

As a kid, me nor my parents had any regard for what the age rating was on LEGO sets. I think they automatically label bigger and technic related sets for higher ages. It also probably has to do with the theme, being a technic "model" of a high end car. As long as he's interested I don't think he'll have a problem with any sets. I still remember going nuts when my parents splurged on the original UCS millennium falcon when I was probably 10. Had it finished in 4 days and it was a blast.

 

The only age that I've seen matter is the "4+" ones. Those have weird mega pieces and are god awful to build as an adult.. accidentally bought one once haha. Otherwise it seems the 18+ is more of a marketing thing to make adults feel less weird about buying the same toys as their kids. Also, keep in mind not all sets have the same level of build app integration. Some are amazing like you've said, but some are just pdf's of the paper sheets.

The boys are doing the best they can with the piss poor parts supply chain and the erratic working schedule, but the commander is not pleased.

He was even less pleased after the boys told him the very next needed parts for the front leg feet are missing........






Big feets!!!

The MOC creater did a great engineering move by installing a way to put a rim and 1 medium tire recessed in the bottom of each foot, giving some much needed traction for the model if not displaying on a Lego base.
