I never sold my 2015 fiesta ST. I Use it on a daily as my Mario kart vehicle. Test drove , focus st, wrx, gti back in 2015. Nothing is or will ever be as fun as this little slut of a hatchback . 19,000 bucks with 0 down and 0% , 4 ppl can cram in , 32mpg combined = impossible to lose.

The 2018 taco is only for trips with the kid.

If the model 3 performance comes down in price a bit that’s the next car. Just so I can smoke “sports cars” with an iPhone on wheels lol.

I didn’t state that they are trash. I just said a story from a family member. Toyota has its fair share of BS but VW even more so like you said all vehicles have problems. And I DO love and respect the golf R I think this is an amazing machine. But I personally would never own anything German.

I have had a few Subaru's with the last one being a 2004 WRX. Fun car but I had reliability concerns, the 5 speed transmission definitely being one of them. I wanted something more reliable/dependable and having a warranty is always a plus.

It’s just anecdotal. For every bad story for manufacturer A, there is a matching for B-Z.

Totally agree like I said I was just mentioning a story of a family member I respect and trust and he is the reason I’m even on this forum he has been in the auto industry for years and he stands behind Toyota and tells his family they should do the same so I gave them a chance and will never go back!

Very true as far as anyone on here knows could be a complete fabrication as I said sharing a story. I would never get a German car. Even better Scotty Kilmer would never get 1 LOL!!! Get what you want that’s why there is more than 1 brand of vehicle hell people even still buy dodges LOL! But after personal impact with a family member I won’t be buying one. And that said my uncle did say VW builds an amazing engine and tranny just everything else attached is Dog crap.

I mean in the sense that it’s just one story and not indicative of anything more than that. All manufacturers try to save money. It’s a fact.

VW isn’t terrible. BMW? Hard pass. Beautiful, terrible cars.

Post-2007 is when the ringland failure started popping up due to the change in tune to meet EPA requirements, at least in the STi. The 2004-2006 didn't have that issue nearly as much. A Stage 1 ProTune alleviated a lot of the issues.

I had the KillerB oil pickup as a safety net.

The thing about Subarus was that they were just very temperamental in terms of how they are driven. I had nearly 65,000 miles on my STi when I sold it and I was still on the original brake rotors. I never went over 2,500 PRM until the oil temp was up to 180-190°F or prior at to having an oil pressure gauge the the oil pressure would drop way down at idle. I checked the oil every time I drove it and sent my old oil out for UOAs with every change.

I always was worried about something happening with that car, but nothing ever did. I had a Stage 2 Protune making 280 / 293 on a Dyno Dynamics heartbreaker dyno. I would have driven that car cross country in a heartbeat.

My best friend had a 2006 WRX wagon he purchased new run to just about 215k on the original motor / trans / clutch and he had it tuned for 20 PSI for almost 140,000 miles of it. But the same thing, he was gentle with it until it was warmed up and then didn't deliberate load the motor just because. His clutch did start slipping at the end in 5th gear, but overall he had zero issue.

It's the people that just beat these cars to death that give them their particularly bad reputation.

lol, funny enough i did it myself with no lawyer. Car had 52k miles on it as well.
Went on to help 2 other friends with same issue lemon theirs with no lawyers.

Obviously i reverted everything back to stock when I handed over the keys though but I never hid anything from them, aftermarket parts were all documented in the service records that they reviewed.

My friend's GTi has had more warranty trips to the dealer on a flatbed than the CryCo junk they had before. The last time a few months ago the timing chain tensioner shit the bed lunching the entire top half of the engine. They were sure glad they bought that extended warranty because at 60k ish this shit shouldn't be happening. The car is all stock and is only maintained by the dealer on time.

I had the same experiences with VW. Stuff that failed that shouldn't have failed.

My MINI Cooper S well that was a shit show

    My BMW was decently reliable

I miss my ST a lot. The practicality of the Tacoma for my current hobbies/lifestyle keeps me content with it, but there is no fun to drive factor at all with a midsize truck that gets confused on when/where to shift

    I've always loved white subies.

I traded my '12 STi in for a '17 tacoma when I started to feel it giving out. Shit was expensive to maintain. Threw a rack and pinion doing a u-turn that was thankfully under warranty. Ultimately, I got fucked by my dealership. Bought it certified used and went to have them price out a buy back quote and they told me the car was repainted. Even showed me the minor spots where you could barely tell. Carmax noticed it too. Got rid of it that evening.

ironically I have been to more “rugged” places with my fiesta st vs the 4x4 taco.
Desert trips to the range , camping in the Sierras, snowboarding at bear, stuffing mtn bikes in the hatch for downhill trips , basically shredding the gnar .... all on fire roads or just plain scraping the shit out of the undercarriage.
