Excessive movement in front axle 07 4x4

I was changing the front diff.oil on my truck today when I noticed the drivers side front axle seems to have movement in it going up and down and side to side. The weird thing about this observation is that it is not leaking at all. It seems to have more movement than the passenger side. Is this normal? My truck has 87000 miles and when I hit small potholes on the NYC highways the truck seems to wander and the drivers side wheel seems to hop. Could this be the front struts? All the struts are original and so are the rear shocks.

I would be looking at upper and lower control arm bushings , tie rod ends and ball joints for the wandering . The play in the axle wont cause steering issues .
