The 4 cyl originally specified 5w-30, but was changed to 0w-20 around 2008 for MPG gains to help meet fleetwide CAFE standards.

Every Tacoma I have ever owned never had this issue. However, my 2010 Tahoe and would consume about ~1 quart every 1500 miles. Turned out to be a combination of the PCV, active fuel management and a poorly designed baffle in the left valve cover. The jury is still out wheather fixing those issues fixed it.

We have a 2007 Tacoma with 144k on it. I had the oil changed last Friday, and my husband checked it today... Doesn't even register on the stick no leaks, and no smoke. I think she's dying

The 3.5 liter engine now being used is becoming known to start using oil at about 70k in some cases. That was a major reason I purchased a '15. I see the engine daily in GS350 and didn't want it in my truck. No flames, just my $.02.

Sounds like you hired someone to do it. If so, they may have under-filled. On the flip side, on a lot of vehicles, oil can be hard to see on the stick right after an oil change.

Source stating this? Who has put 70k miles on a 2016 in one year?

He may be talking about the 2GR-FE engine - V6 - used in Avalon's/Camry's/Sienna/Highlander/Rav4.

My '06 Avalon has 202K on the clock and has never used a drop of oil.

I mean maybe, but I had Toyota do it. We've been consistently losing about a quart and a half every 500 miles... So hopefully it was just under filled.
I did some research last night and found that some tacomas have issues with the piston seal rings, but I mean if I'm not seeing it on the ground, where would it be going?
We have an 88' SR5 and we had to redo the heads a couple years ago, I'm really hoping that were not going to end up having to do something huge like that with this one.

You say it's losing about 1.5 qts. every 500 miles since the oil change. How many miles have you driven since the oil change?

 Have you looked around the bay? Maybe it's collecting on a pan/skid. I would be surprised though considering it's leaking that much. Does it smoke or anything?

A quart and a half every 500 miles is excessive, have you discussed this with the dealer?

If it isn't leaking on the ground or skid plate it would have to be sucking it into the combustion chamber and burning it.

I mean consistently before this change. I got the oil changed last week, so about 300 miles.

Nope, no smoke, nothing on the ground...

I haven't talked to the dealer about it. From what I've been reading, they are denying all the oil consumption issues.
I have no idea what to do about this damn thing.

How long has this been going on?

Did you buy it new or used?

How many miles are on the odometer?
