have you pulled the PCV and inspected it? It is easy to do and could be part of your issue.

for 3$ part i replaced that at the first signs.my thought is the oil scraper ring has lost tension on the cylinder wall. but, i still need to get around to compression and leak down tests.

My v6 uses a little maybe a 1/4 to 1/2 a quart between oil changes, 5000 miles. I figured that was normal. It has done it since it was new and I have 125k miles now

    Lets see.............

First and only (so far) post.

I don't know what 'having the Toyota specialist look at it' means, because no one can tell you anything by looking at it. A compression and leakdown test are the only tools that will tell you were the oil is being consumed. Examination of plugs when they come out for compression will be hints too.

All seems a bit sketchy. But assuming you wound up here simply because of user error......

I do agree with you that 1qt / 1k mi is not good. That was an acceptable standard on muscle cars of the '60's. And since then machining is better, oils are better and these certainly are not 'muscular' in any way..........

Find another dealer to plead your case with before your warranty is done.

Good idea. Oil consumption (burning) and cylinder compression are usually connected, but not always.

This is more reasonable consumption rate, dare I say it would be "liveable" if my truck did this. But for some reason when oil burning comes up, I always worry about fouling cats, probably because they are certainly not cheap. But I guess they are able to burn off some foul exhaust... up to a point. When I say "up to a point" I mean cats can consistently process up to a certain quantity of foulness in the exhaust, over the long term, without issues. "A point" NOT meaning they will inevitably foul simply due to foul exhaust. But I guess you run them long enough and they might.

Just did a hard 600 mile trip with quite a bit of 80+ mph driving and noticed I had burned approx a quart on a 4000 mile change. Anyone else seem to burn some when they run hard? 06 ac 4.0 108k
