Just bought a 2016 Tacoma TRD sport 4x4 with V6 and manual transmission. My biggest complaint is the buzzing and vibration that seems to be coming from the engine at certain times. I can feel it thru the steering wheel, thru the seat/chassis, and can hear it. It does not do it all the time, but often enough to be extremely annoying. I am wondering if it has something to do with the Atkinson cycle? Has anyone else experienced something similar.

Hmm. Don't think I've noticed in mine. I only have 600 miles on it though.. Has yours done it since new?

I have only had a couple weeks, I bought it with 6800 miles on it. It has done it the whole time. I did not notice on test drive. Started on way back from dealer that was a 2 hour drive away, and has been doing it since.

I have an automatic that I have owned one week. I told my sales guy it vibrates in the pedal and is rather noisy. I believe it to be the Atkinson engine. I also thought it is quite sluggish at low speeds and highway. Im close to selling this vehicle back because im used to a 2007 Sierra 4.8L. However... I've found that if you slip it into sport/manual mode and run in 3rd with RPM's 2,500 to 3,000 RPMs it has a good it improves response a TON. Play with the ETC button as well it will allow higher RPM's between shifts thus more torque. Saves MPG when creaping Off Road... I guess thats a plus! Im ony at 300 miles.

I have a manual transmission, so it definitely not related to the transmission. I can put the truck in neutral and coast and it will continue to buzz thru the steering wheel and floor board. I too agree that it is related to the Atkinson cycle, as it only seems to do it under low load low rpms. At highway speeds with rpm above 2000 it is smooth. I would like to find a way to defeat the Atkinson cycle to prove my theory.

Stock tires and wheels? I have a Sport MT and have no vibrations at speeds 0 to 90 2wd, 4wd, and 4lo (and no not 90mph in 4wd). So, could it be tires that smooth out after a certain speed?

Definitely not tires, it had oversized 285/65R18 on it when I bought it. I put brand new set of stock sized tires on with a front end alignment a couple weeks ago. Absolutely no difference. It is very much related to the engine as it only happens under certain conditions. Low load and low rpm triggers it, which also seem to correlate to the conditions that trigger the Atkinson cycle. I can feel it thru the steering wheel and floor board. It give a numbing feeling in my hands. It does not occur when rpm's stay above about 2k. Driving around town it happens most of the time that I am in 5 th or 6 th gear.

    Here’s what worked for me:

-Look under your truck near the drivers seat : steering column for any loose, metal cases cables. I had a cable that was rattling against my TC and was oddly the culprit for 90% of my gas pedal vibrations - I just secured it to the cab with a bit of solicone adhesive, but others have put a clip/mount on it.
-try running premium if that’s an option. Much less vibrations on the good stuff in my experience
-Replacing crankshaft position sensor resolved much of the vibration at idle. Even if not on the recall list this has helped many owners with roughness and vibrations
-If you get REAL about addressing this for good, my experience is that any remaining vibrations that cannot be solved by the above are a result of the ECU programming - specifically the timing and intake/exhaust maps. There is the OVTune which many forum members are running successfully myself included.

I have no real vibrations to speak of at all now. And for the first 6 months I owned this truck that was my biggest complaint (hands going numb, foot going numb unless I put it in cruise, etc.,)

This can be fixed if you’re committed to making it happen but does take patience

See you got a 3 inch lift, or says in your details at least. Heard anything about the needle bearing? They seem to give a lot of trouble after lifting and cause all sorts of vibrations.

Edit: I believe you can test this one out by putting it in 4wd during the time it is vibrating and if it goes away in 4wd, there's a good chance that's your problem. Oh and be sure to do this either off pavement or at least only going straight if it is on pavement.

I have the same truck. Mine is a rumbling vibration. I believe it is related to a driveshaft and poor chassis damping. I only notice it when it's in the 50 degree range or lower. My assumption is that all the rubber mounts and isolaters are stiffer then. Very annoying, but hard to diagnose. Does your vibration change with speed or engine rpm?

Thanks for the replies. I wanted to get others feedback and experiences prior to going to the dealer to see if there was something to focus on. Yes truck is lifted with Revtek kit, the dealer installed it prior to original sale(I bought it used). However, it only does it under certain conditions, so I am pretty sure it is not driveline. I can shift into neutral when it occurs and the vibrations remain. I am going to put Amsoil in the rear this weekend, so I will inspect underside at that time and check torque on suspension parts too.

While you're down there, check the torque on your u bolts underneath. Some users have reported theirs were loose from the factory. When you go drive next time, pop it in 4wd and see if it goes away. Quick/easy/free test that doesn't involve going to the dealer yet. That might rule out the needle bearing.

Based on all the input on here I purchased and installed the EGCS bushing. Although it helps at lower speeds, the problem returns at 60 mph and up. I am glad I did waste money paying a shop to do it or to buy the tool from ECGS. I made my own from scrap pieces. What really pisses me off is that I have not even made the first payment on the truck and am ready to get rid of it. I can not believe that Toyota has gotten away with such poor engineering on the differentials on these trucks. The rear howls and the front has excessive vibration. What a total POS, will never buy another Toyota. Will stick with domestic real trucks. What a total waste of $$$$$.
