Anywhere that sells detailing products will have various clay bars to choose from.

I've notice this too on white or lighter colored 2nd Gen Tacomas. Some trucks appear to run really rich, going by the amount of soot at the tailpipe and bedside. What's odd is that the tailpipe on the 2010, V6 I just purchased is squeeky clean. You could almost eat out of it. There is also no soot on the bedside or around the exhuast exit.

Now my 2014, 2.7 which is also super white and only has 2200 miles on it has a hefty soot coating around the bedside near the tailpipe. I guess the 2.7 runs a little rich as well. My buddy has an '05 Sport, Super White, V6 auto and his bedside looks just like Op's. His tailpie is also heavily coated with soot just like a diesel or a car with a direct injection engine.

I can't for the life of me understand why some are clean and some are sooty? Fuel quality perhaps? I don't know, perhaps someone with better knowledge will chime in.

I actually almost snapped a pic of a white 2nd gen in a parking lot the other day, that had a ton of soot by the tailpipe area, to post here as I was curious as to what would cause almost diesel like soot on a truck like this.

Always begin with a good guess for the least abrasive and work your way towards more aggressive. Clay bar is a good start - Meguiar's makes a kit for ~$20.

Do you think it would contribute to accelerated corrosion of some metal parts just underneath the body panel/bumper?

Mine has an almost yellow look to it at only 8,000 miles.

Try to go the non-abrasive route first. Cleaner wax's are pretty common and might get it done, but overall are weak. Something like the old Meguiar's Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner would be my first choice. If you can't find any, move towards their Ultimate Compound or another brand of fine cut compound. It's just soot/emissions staining the paint, stay on it and you'll be alright.
