MagnaFlow with DT headers. Nice deep throaty sound, not ricey

The Doug Thorley headers worth the time/money now that you run them? Thinking about them in the future.

I love the dt header best upgrade for performance you can do on our 4bangers besides a re-gear

I have a Magnaflow #12635 round muffler on my 2rz and I don't like it. I have a drop in air filter and full length tail pipe. It drones around 2-3k rpm, is loud at idle, and is slightly embarrassing. Its gotten louder over time, hasn't helped MPG or performance either. I honestly am changing my shifting habits to keep the noise down. Has anyone else encountered this problem and fixed it using a resonator, helmholtz, or? If I were to do it all over again, I would have kept the muffler stock. Suggestions??

    They are. :)
I compared the dyno results for both the short tube DT and the long tube LCE for peak torque.

    DT 4,000 rpms
    LCE 3,150 rpms

So I chose the LCE because I wanted more low end pull than top end performance.

I think yours sounds good. :)
And if you want a little deeper sound add a header. This is mine with a header and Flowmaster, and a 1/8" smaller diameter tailpipe than stock so I wouldn't lose the low end pull.

Regarding the OP, If your existing system is too loud...I would recommend adding a Resonator.

Did a quick google search, and found the following:

Your local exhaust shop may already have them in stock.

I haven't been able to find one yet. Magnaflow, Gibson, borla, flowmaster, etc, have no offerings for 2.7 reg cab. Looks like we'll have to cut off the end, and weld on a new flange.

I just swapped in the longest oval Magnaflow in 2.5" in my 2.7 reg cab 5 lug. You can barely hear it until you push the pedal deep, has a very low level brrrrrrrrrrrrip to it, no farting, no back firing. Most wouldn't know its not stock.

I think the overall length was 25", it was $114 at Summit.

    Part number MPE 12586

I wasn't looking for obnoxious noise, just enough to know its running. Thumbs up.

I had to enlarge the pipes to fit the muffler, then they were weld in.
