Has anyone cut the 3 3/4" end off which leaves the 3" dia. Pipe so we can buy the cheaper tips that don't come in the bigger size. I ride the beach and roads not much mud.

I was thinking about that the other day, no cons to doing this as will just give you more drama free options...
That 1" flare does nothing but complicate things.

Wish the resonator didn’t make an immediate turn, I was hoping to chop it after the resonator and put a clamp on turn down but there isn’t enough straight pipe to do it.

Next option is to have a muffler shop chop it flush and weld on a turn down pipe going straight back.

And final option is a reasonably priced “Trail pipe” like the NYTOP version just out of stainless instead of titanium. Toyota is supposed to be offering up an accessory Trail Pipe but it’s not yet available.

IMG_3704.png IMG_3714.jpg I just left my local exhaust shop in San Diego that I’ve been dealing with for 35 years. He said we can install the huge bullet stainless tip after lopping off the expanded tip for $100 installed, or continue with the original reason I came here was to turn the stock exhaust into the trail hunter configuration, cutting the stock exhaust and configuring it into a turn down and re-welding the exhaust hanger at the top. Basically, flipping the pipe on the flange, as it is configured now to turn up over the diff, so if you flip it, it will be turning down, and we will cut it and shape the end, Also just $100 all in.
Very reasonable compared to $250, I need to sleep on it and decide if I’m ready to hack up the truck.
Also included a picture of the tippy was thinking, I was also considering black since thetruck has a black-and-white color theme to it. I guess at least it will after I decide on wheels.
He stated black tips aren’t as durable.
So end of the day, my fab job would look like the pic posted of the stock trailhunter tip.
Went to the shop thats going to do my lift, we discussed things. He also agreed to move forward with hacking-up the exhaust.
He also mentioned if I dint want to do the dump, cut-off the resonator & have the exhaust come out the side at more of an angle & tighter to the bed with a the huge tip in the pics, so its would look cooler vs straight out the side as it is now.
    Options...
I just need someone to push me over the edge...o_O

I mean not that $100 is unreasonable, cost of labor. is most of that cost really, think shop time in my area on the cheap end is over $90 an hour. so supplies and time not to bad at all. think I paid $90 for the local shop to chop off my resonator, and weld in a piece of straight pipe and then tuck the turn down up on another car a year ago

So what do most think at this point???
the dump in front of the diff?
cut the resonator off & do some fancy piping so it angle out the back some vs straight out the side, tighter to the cab & a nice big bullet tip?
    or leave it?

Just bought some black Rust-Oleum Hammered paint, says it's good to 200 degrees. Cleaned it up and gave it 2 coats. Pic taken while wet.

Looks good. I’d opt for the TRD dual tip exhaust when it’s available.

Found a guy through some fishing buddies that also work in the auto industry.
Went by his shop & he will charge me $60 to fab a dump from scratch including flange & install, remove the factory tailpipe & not hack it up...
I really didnt want to store the pipe!!!
Guess I can still toss it...

Just some 35% tint to match the rears and some 285/70/17 Falkens…
That's an affordable solution...and I am thinking there are tons of local exhaust shops that will be happy to do that...

    trd jons pipe? yeah....
I dont know what to do but want to do something....
I almost like the idea I came up with better than the turndown in front of the diff...
Which is have a shop hack off the pipe after the rear diff roughly 6" before the resonator, ditch the resonator..
Fab a section of pipe to the exhaust still comes out the side but more of a slight angle & put on one of the bling bling bullet polished stainless tip exaggeratedly hanging out the side 4-5+ inches....
try to get the pipe up higher close to the bed vs low...
At least then the truck will have some jewelry...:D
I dont know!!! Thats why I havent done anything.
Found my guy, he will fab me a poormans turndown like the factory trailhunter for $60, installed, & removing my stock pipe & leaving it whole so it can rot on the side of the yard....

Not sure I like the idea of exhaust gasses under the vehicle, I suppose it's ok for a truck, just air it out first if you are sleeping in a shell in the back.
WTH does a resonator do, anyway? Make it flow better or just sound better?
