Check my build thread...too much to list.
My truck isn't as loud as a buddy who has flowmasters but I do have the resonated version of the AeroTurbine. Hopefully I'll have the DT's in a month or two.

To each their own, though if done right exhaust can gain you increased performance. So it's not useless. I don't worry about beating up my setup though cause it's dumped before the axle and I have skids.

None yet but in the works!
I have to agree with you on mufflers. A loud muffler may sound good at first but I don't think it makes any difference in performance. It only sounds faster!
That loud muffler gets really annoying on long drives.

I’ve got the TRD CAT Back. It fits perfectly and looks good. It’s deep and throaty with a good rumble purr.
For me I’m very satisfied and would absolutely recommend it.

Can I just buy an item like a flowmaster 40 muffler and bolt it up with my original pipes?
Also cat back vs doing just this ^. Will there be a real difference?

You'd have to cut your muffler off, and weld in the aftermarket. It wouldn't lend to much of a difference...most people just buy a catback to upgrade most of their exhaust to stainless. People put in mufflers to get better flow and sound for less money. If you don't feel that you meed stainless or don't want it, it is a good way to save money by just welding in a muffler.

When I bought my 14 it was COMPLETELY quiet! I had the stock muffler cut out and a Borla muffler welded in. The sound changed in a huge way! I imagine that with the 40 series Flowmaster it would change considerably, they are also known for a bit of drone...so I have read.

IMHO, the cat back option just cleans up the install and makes it possible for the basic do-it-yourself type to do the work at home. I can't imagine that the sound is too much different vs the same muffler welded in the stock pipes.

Just beware that some clamps dont do as good a job at sealing..... My mk2 system had some serious leaks until I had it welded.
Also take into consideration the cost of 1 muffler welded onto stock pipes versus the cost of a full catback that will more than likely have the same diameter in/out as stock at 2.5" which is just fine for our naturally aspirated 4.0 engine.

AR15: thanks a bunch thats exactly what I was wondering. Sounds like the only real reason to go full cat back is ease of install, corrosion, and maybe a bit of looks. However with the full catback will the size of poor change? In that case some bending would be required in order to seat the stock pipe onto an aftermarket muffler?
