I'm in the market for a new exhaust . The one I currently have is fine except the top.of the muffler rotted out . Looking at a few older posts I've seen a couple people say that the tubes themselves were actually stainless , while the mufflers weren't . If that's the case , I'd rather just do a new muffler instead of buying the entire TRD exhaust . Add to that , the TRD exhaust for the 2nd Gen seems to be back ordered . Not surprising really as they're as old as they are . Just looking for any suggestions or info that you guys can share !

I had a dynomax on my 09 and did not like it. Too much drone at low rpm for me.

Drone not too bad and idle is quiet and at full throttle it gets loud, as you want.
Can get the front muffler up to cat straight pipe also and the tailpipe if wanted also but the tailpipe is the old bend type with lots of bend ribs.

Subbing as I'm probably going to need a catback in the near future, my guess at least as I also have a 2010 on the original pipes and muffler. Single cab 4 cylinder..don't need loud though a little more free flowing than the stocker ain't bad

I have a cheap MBRP exhaust on mine and I really like it. Sounds great considering it's on the 1GR which pretty much sounds like ass no matter what.

I had read that concern in a few reviews before I bought mine but have found it to be pretty quiet unless I'm really pushing the gas. Of course, I'm coming from a TRD system that had completely rusted through right past the muffler, so my perspective might be a little skewed... :D

Your stainless TRD system rusted through? Was it an OEM exhaust on a TRD Tacoma or a TRD exhaust system (not the same thing)?

Hmmm... it was the OEM exhaust on my TRD Sport. Definitely NOT stainless because the whole thing is/was a solid crusty brown...

Damn shame, hopefully your frame is still in decent shape.

Yes, bought the truck because the frame and leaf springs had just been replaced. It was a weird combination of almost new/very rusty, with the exhaust being the rustiest. Didn't really give it much thought as it passed inspection in Oct. but glad I replaced it before inspection this year.

Better to need an exhaust versus frame, plus at that age the exhaust is an expectation.

Indeed! Did a lot of "replacement" work this summer but all of it was to be expected and the truck is in great condition!

That is what sold me on it! I had probably looked at 10-15 possible "buys" prior and every single one had some significant issue. I still had a few things that needed doing on this one but, for a 200+k truck, it's been good to me!
