I am starting to plan out a build, and armor is at the top of the list. I have seen a few mentions of a re-route for the exhaust, and have gathered it is for clearance. I have searched for a thread, but can't seem to find more than a quick mention of whether someone has had it or not. I seem to be terrible at key words for a search though.

Anyhow, I am wondering the pros and cons of the re-route, and an estimate for the cost. Is it something this is completely custom exhaust work, or is there a preferred kit. If anyone could point me to a thread or chime in and educate me i would appreciate it.

I also have seen a few exhaust set-up with the tailpipe turned down behind the axle instead of out the side like stock. I don't off-road much right now, but am building the truck with that goal in mind.

    Pros: Clearance, flat skids
Cons: None that I can think of?

I had it done a couple months back to fit my pelfreybilt skids and had it done for I think $120? I brought it to a muffler shop and he chopped the old piping off and rolled a new bend and welded where the old exhaust was chopped off. Easy as that.

Edit: For the turn down exhaust, most people just hack off the remaining exhaust above the axle as well. Dont need a muffler shop to do that.

Any pics of before and after the re-route? For that cheap it seems very worth it before ordering skids.

Contact @Gadget@URD for a top quality bolt on y-pipe. Yes better clearance and exhaust flow. The URD one is made from larger diameter pipe and is also stainless steel !

After reading a little more on the thread i couldn't find named "exhaust reroute". I typed that in 4 different ways and nothing. Anyhow, I think a custom piece is more for me. I will take everyone's advice and get stainless though. It just seems like URD doesn't get above the crossmember completely. It could have been the angle the picture was taken. Either way it seems like it can be done locally for about the same price.

The URD one does. I have a friend with it, and it allows him to run a reroute skid. He also has their muffler and with the two combined, it sounds GOOD. Would definitely recommend if you can afford it.

The custom reroute is a much cheaper option though.

I'm assuming that you would know if URD Y-pipe can be run with a Mobtown skid? I plan to run full mobtown since it is really the only east coast supplier i've found, and their products are stout and well built from what I've seen.

Really want to pull the trigger on holyhandgrenades, but it is too far away.

Yeah, it can be run with it as far as I know. I say that with 99% certainty. Only reason I'm not 100% certain is because I haven't seen that actual combo run first hand.

Also good call on the Mobtown skids! I see you're Army, either active or prior. Hit up Joe before placing an order and he'll get you a 10% off coupon code.

Good to know, i am trying to get a list of mods together, and which order to complete them. I know it will be a process, but this seems like a step to take before getting skids.

Prior service, but that is awesome of Joe to have a discount. I plan to do sliders at the same time and maybe drive out to save shipping. I want a CMC in prep for 285's and saw pics of a really clean job they did.

That's a tough one, because after 9 hours of driving, plus the cost of gas and sales tax, you may not be saving that much money. They do do great CMCs though. If you end up not wanting to drive that far, I believe @Urineovrurhead is nearish to you (about an hour and a half) and he's super skilled with fabrication. Made all his own armor and shackle flips and whatnot for his truck so I'm sure he could do a CMC for you no problem.

^^^^^This is why I love TW. People that actually care. I follow TTE, but it is usually not worth the time. Thanks for all responses. I have some mulling over to do, but I think I have a path forward. For now...

Not a problem at all, and let me know if you have any other questions whether it be about Mobtown armor or just modding in general. If I don't know the answer, I'll try and get you pointed in the right direction.

I'm out in Indiana. But don't have a shop anymore since I've moved out here. So I wouldn't be able to do a cmc. (Unless you can barrow a welder for me to use.) I'm actually looking at possibly parting out my old truck so I might be able to help you with some 'cheaper' mods. If your interested just PM me.

I hear the stock exhaust is perfectly engineered for back pressure etc etc.. so I wonder if Rerouting would affect any of that?? Any one really know??
