I want my Tacoma to sound more aggressive but don’t want to piss off the neighbors… any recommendations on brand of exhaust systems or mufflers?

    It's a secret
You can just drive around in S-2 @25MPH when in your neighborhood to keep the RPM above ~3.8k where the V6 sounds the best even with the stock exhaust...

I have a magnaflow overland series high clearance exhaust and not only is it way more functional, but it has a nice throaty sound to it. Definitely not overdoing it by any means however. I really like it though. Hope that helps.

I have a Flowmaster Super 40. Everyone tells me it sounds good. It sounds nice when paired with a manual too. I dont notice the drone in the cab but you can definitely hear it at lower RPMs under load. Maybe ill post a sound byte or something.

^^- This for sure. Had it on my '06 and now on my '21 TRD OR AC. Light throttle and you won't piss off the neighbors, heavy throttle and it'll be heard. Added bonus - 100% stainless steel - 15 years on my '06 and it was still good when I sold it.

    Simple.

Make a recording of the engine sound you want. Mount a set of weather resistant speakers under the truck. Play your recorded sound at your desired loudness level.

I personally don't care for exhaust systems on V6 trucks but whatever you do decide on, make sure the whole system is 304 stainless especially if you're up north. It's gonna cost more but it's superior when it comes to exhaust systems. Usually that means Magnaflow, Borla, and Corsa. I wouldn't do anything chambered either. Go with a straight through design. I'm personally a Corsa fan. Had a system on my previous truck which was a 2019 F150 with a 5.0. It sounded amazing and had no drone at all.

Cut your exhaust pipe off just before the muffler and clamp on about a 2 foot long piece of a bicycle inner tube. It's not going to be the sound you want but the fart can crowd will worship you.

Do you think it’d be too loud if I just used 1 foot tubing?

Mufflers are one of many subjective topics. I had a local muffler shop supply and install a Flowmaster 44 and black tip and cost me $300 CAD ($240 USD) out the door and sounds great. Aggressive but not obnoxious and no drone. To me it is everything I wanted in a muffler. I had a Magnaflow SS on my 2016 which sounded good but too tame for my liking.

Don't worry you won't be pissing anybody off with an exhaust on the taco. They'll just feel embarrassed for you.

Edit: I just noticed SR taco, those are the 4 cylinder tacos? I feel I should know but there are 1 million variations of tacomas. If so, def don't put an aftermarket exhaust on it.
