soooo, the factory exhaust is cool and all, but a few rocks over the years have told me that it gets in the way and whatnot. plus, running a manual trans you cant hear can be difficult when trying to creepy crawl.

so, all things point to cutting the factory muffler out and replacing with one of my "mufflers". and having exhaust end before the rear axle. heres the easy redneck way! I have done this many times before, and each time I swear will be the last. this one went pretty smooth compared to some, despite the fact that I was limited to a tig welder.

all good things start with a plan!

correction: factory tubing turned out to be 2 3/8" o.d. my 2 1/4" hole ended up being long time with die-grinder

then, cut pieces from the awesome cut-sheet attached to plans. I like using 10ga stainless in a brushed finish because it was easiest to grab from scrap bin

weld in the super awesome baffle and make sure your aggregate area surrounding it will be bigger than factory tubing size. drill holes just in case.

fit your top to your bottom via the "baffle". make sure they are layed out exactly the same so the rest of your muffler comes together. fitup should look like this

weld your shit out. I didn't much care about tacks and my weld shows it. this is the worst of it. this is walking the cup

great! now drill 2 3/8" holes in the ends in preparation to fit to factory pipe! after that, cut the big-stupid-muffler from your truck. cut the supports so that you can slide them out of the rubbers without harm. don't destroy the tailpipe, its nice to have for the new "muffler". and for the record, that's a hilti cordless recip saw. I don't mess around

yay, now frantically turn your garage upside down looking for a good support material. . . . I found some 3/8" stainless tubing. jack your factory pipe up a bit (it will flex at the collector flange for v6) and weld your support in. disassemble flange and weld your new "muffler" to factory pipe on the stand where its comfortable. add some tailpipe. rebolt flange together and let er rip!

im not happy with the way the truck sounds, but I have never heard a v6 4 valve I did think was cool so. . . .whatevs. its clear now and I can tell when im loaded and about to die at low rpm. it sounds like a ricer at high rpm but at normal driving is just kinda throaty and barely there over tire drone. hope you enjoyed ;)

Sounds pretty decent, does it have that true redneck snap crackle pop back fire if ur revd and quickly let off? I do so hate that on anything.

lol thanks, Im not big on v6 noise but its just that im unable to hang up on it now that gets me excited. but it didn't end up as bad as some of the "real" setups I have heard.

    There's no replacement for displacement

It's not just about sound though.

I admire your creativity, and think it sounds pretty damned good for a scratch built muffler. :)

I also had sound issues with my camera as it had sound level compensation built into it. If the sound got louder, it would just reduce the recording volume to even it out.

Your design is similar to the Flowmaster Series 10...

    cutaway_10_series_1079483f7a9016c88cd1d322f9219f8b59b81454.jpg

...except they used three angled plates.

    Greg

p.s. I also discovered exactly the same oddball 2 3/8" OD pipe as you did. I think Toyota might have used metric sized tubing.

I expected some horrible noise. Sounds good to me. Nice work. I heard your tire hum more than the exhaust.
