Hi guys, I'm gonna be blunt and I'm embarrassed as all hell to say this but I messed up.
I removed my oem muffler creating a straight pipe which according to her dealer ship could be the cause of my lag, no back pressure, does anyone know of any cost friendly systems that will fix the problem? What route to take? I Reeeeally love the sound of it opened up as it is but I don't want to risk keeping it much longer.

    Haha.....what?

You cut off the exhaust from the muffler back on your tacoma and then took it to the dealer because it was running poorly?

Why not just put the stock exhaust back and see if it runs better

    Haha that's pretty funny man...

If I were you I'd fork out the cash for something nice that's what it's done... Not a fan of cheap fixed they always need work down the road.

When I had my 2nd Gen I loved my borla trd cat back... Great noise and wasn't annoying. Little expensive but at least they last.

    Good luck man. Lol.

Whoever told you at your dealer that removing back pressure / increasing exhaust flow causes the engine to 'lag' is an idiot. The less restriction you have with a naturally aspirated motor, the better - unless its a 4cyl. Lol

Not necessarily true, loss of back pressure would result in loss of low end torque. You would get more on the high end, but starting from a stop, you might notice it.

I'm running the MBRP exhaust that dumps right before the rear axle. Nothing but gains and absolutely no loss of low-end torque, it actually increased noticeably. Not sure where your source of information is coming from lol but it is wrong

Just removes the back cats, from my understanding I guess there's some right by the manifolds as well that will remain??? Also, others have reported that it would pass an emissions test because it retains the from O2 sensor or some such, where they test... I don't know.

We were discussing it for a while here:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2016-urd-y-pipe-and-cat-back-exhaust.467846/

It would fail a visual inspection for sure if you live in California. But as far as a actual emissions test, kind of in a wait a see pattern right now, until someone gets one. Think this might be my mod next month.

Yeah, here in Texas, you get 2 years before an inspection on new vehicles... Crap thing is they went to a one sticker thing a couple years ago, and if you don't pass inspection you can't get your registration renewed.

Everyone's like just keep your stock Y-pipe and reinstall it before inspection.... 2 things. 1) where the hell am I going to keep a crappy old Y-pipe for 364 days out of the year, and 2) I want everything welded from where the Y-pipe bolts to the muffler pipe all the way through the tip. I hate bolt on crap. Weld it!
