How many people actually put new exhaust on there Tacoma’s? I wanna do a true dual exhaust but wanna see how they look first and the sound if anyone here has done something like that before putting to much time into it.

I was looking into this and I would say it is not worth it personally. You need to be pushing 50+ hp above stock to make it worth it. Also alot of the losses are in the exhaust manifolds and cat's in this system

Personally I think the best 2 options are:
https://www.urdusa.com/urd-spec-u-exhaust-2016-tacoma-v6-aclb-dcsb/ would be your best bet for a turnkey solution

Or a combination of https://www.urdusa.com/urd-mark-2-y-pipe-tacoma-2016-v6/ hooked up to the MBRP dual exhaust would give you a not "true" dual exhaust but with 95% of the flow of a dual exhaust (pulling the # out of thin air but probably pretty close)

I have the MBRP dual exhaust and it is overkill for the stock system with 3" single inlet to 2.5" double outlet. I plan on making my own Y-Pipe designed like URD's to take out that nastiness of the stock pipes crushed bends. They make me want to cry just thinking about the back pressure. Granted might only gain 5hp tops but I will feel better knowing there isn't that crap underneath my seat!

You can't do better than stock on these new trucks. The computer does the running. Save your money for something else.

only reason I would do it is for a better sound. I'm going to have a Magnaflow welded in next week.

So . . . On a personal level, share with us what "better sound" means to you. How does that affect your life?

Despite your sarcasm I’ll answer the question.

The stock exhaust note is very uninspiring. We have a mid-large displacement V6 which has an opportunity to sound really good!

I love the sound of a V6, personally. There is your personal-level insight into me. I prefer an N/A V6 over a V8, V12, I4, turbo-4/6, etc. Everyone has a different preference which is what makes this world an interesting place. I like a certain exhaust note, bourbon, type of dog, etc.

V6s, this engine included, love to rev and have a great scream at higher RPM. Most don’t love that in a truck because it doesn’t sound manly or whatever. But me, personally, I love it.

So, I chose a brand and a muffler which I have had good experiences with in the past. It should give it a deeper register at lower rpm without droning and then really open up and sing when it gets revved.

As far as how it affects my life, it makes me happy to hear a great engine note. It gives me more satisfaction when driving my vehicles, reduces stress and makes me look forward to driving. For me, personally, it has a big impact on my enjoyment of my vehicle.

I hope you know me a little better now. If you have more questions I’m happy to answer. I’ll share the results of the install when complete and after it has broken in.

I got the MBRP dual exit exhaust.
Did it for the sound. Also dual exits exhaust just looks nice.
Wonder if I should paint it black or just leave it polished steel.
Drone gets toned down after breaking it in.
Then used resonator tips to kill the high rev rice, it also killed off more of the drone.

I have tried two different mufflers with both paired to a resonator.

One muffler was a custom built muffler from a local shop. I felt small difference, but there was a real difference in MPG. I had to ditch the muffler because the drone was too crazy. I even got ear fatigue. I got a resonator to pair with this muffler and it still had crazy amounts of drone.... just less of it.

I currently have a black widow muffler (Race Venon 2.5). Their moto is "All new tone. No harsh Drone". I can attest that this is true. It is ultra quiet at 50mph to 75mph. They also have a unique sound that I like. Granted, I haven't tried this muffler without the resonator.

Overall, I think having a louder and deeper exhaust makes my driving experience a lot more fun and pleasurable. I like hearing those crackles/pops when I shift gears (I have MT). every morning I hear a great cold start, which makes me excited about driving my truck.

Is there some sort of performance increase? I don't know or care. When I get off work and I am stressed out, getting in my truck feels a lot better now. My drive home is more fun, and more relaxing. If all that costs is $200, I don't have much to complain about.

I have magnaflow on mine and regret it. I’d say this engine isn’t the kind for true duals, so I’d be concerned with too much flow

Can you give me some more details on the muffler you got (pipe size, offset, install etc) I had a black widow on my old 07 Silverado and loved it and I'm wanting to get one for the taco.

The bolt on kit. I like that it uses larger diameter pipe behind the muffler, though.

Have to post up my setup. URD Y pipe w/cat delete feeding into a 2 1/2" x18" spiral louvered glasspack as a resonator in front of a Flowmaster American Thunder dual outlet cat back system. I am quite happy with the sound and don't feel that it has a bad drone.

This is a quick trip with the window down,I tried to keep the revs up as much as a could in traffic.

Gotcha. I agree there is some potential downside to opening it up too much. I’m having an exhaust re-route done and the stock muffler chopped out and replaced with a Magnaflow. Everything else will stay the same.

    I’m hoping for the best

Crazy thing about these "new" trucks is the computer can ADAPT. How the heck do you think it runs smooth on a 0 degree F 20 percent humidity day then runs smooth at 110 degree F 100% humidity day? From sea level high pressure weather to mile high low pressure weather. I think the slight flow improvement in the exhaust it can manage to make use out of.

As for the sound... it helps me keep out of the throttle more when trying to get MPG, I can hear better now how much throttle she is getting and thus fuel usage. I don't have to look down at the MPG gauge as much now since I can hear what gear the auto is in and whether it is locked up converter or not.

Hmmmm . . . Sounds like you've already made up your mind. Enjoy your new exhaust and the added MPG's.

I did not "made up your mind". Believe it or not I've owned and modified vehicles previously. I have an education in Automotive Technology. If you look at my first post I claim "5hp tops". Please show me how that isn't possible by modifying the exhaust.

This has to be the worse forum I've ever been on. Every topic is filled with nonsense and no facts. I honestly came across this topic and gave my 2 cents as I already did the research around what the OP was looking for. A few others have chimed in with their actual experiences. Then the other half is just mindless squabble.

I came from http://www.isuzupup.com/ and I wish I could find somewhere similar for Tacoma's that has more facts, references, and guidance then senseless arguing. I guess I get the stigma of "Tacoma fanboys" now.
