Exhaust tip help?

Need some help what exactly does adding a tip on your exhaust do ?

 

Can add 25-50HP depending on the material it is made of. No really just for looks as far as I can tell.

 

Makes it look nice from the side and back. It slightly increases the sound when they are big or long barrels. Think how your voice sounds if you put your hands around it to shout vs just shouting. Kind of like a megaphone. 0 performance benefit.

 

Thanks! I really just thought it was for the good looks. Do you have to get the whole piping to get the tip or you can just buy the single tip alone and add it on from there?

 

You can just add a tip to what is already on the truck. Some mount with a little pin or you can weld, which in that case you may cut some of the stock pipe back a bit.

I have a 3.5" on mine but I also have a magnaflow muffler so I'm not sure the difference in stock vs with just a tip. Had the tip put on at the same time as the muffler. It does look nice though

 

Adding a tip does look nice I've been seeing so Many tacos with a styled tip like hey ima get that! Just never really knew what was the purpose for it. I have a flowmaster 40 series just did the muffler swap all its piping is stock. So ima buy it and see what adding a tip will do

Personally, I like them on the correctly accessorized vehicle. Just not enough to open my wallet for a TRD version

 

Just something else to catch your eye on the rear end of the vehicle.

Some are also perforated or louvered to change/muffle the note more. You can find decent descriptions of the exhaust tips and their functions (or lack their of for many) on Magnaflow's website.
