Exhaust tip removal...help!

So what seems like an easy uncomplicated endeavor has proven to be anything but. I loosened the clamp, pulled, twisted, sprayed WD-40, and still cannot get it off. Is there a trick to getting this thing off? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Only if you are worthy to carry the hammer.

 

But for realzz just take a hammer and slowly tap each side back and worth. Also bend the tabs outwards after you pull the ring off.

 

Alas, I am much too weak. The wrench was almost too much for me.

 

Hmmmm...will try that. Maybe my four year old daughter can get it.

 

A prybar or screw driver to help loosen the clap will work, that with the spray should slide it right off.

You change the pipeing, or just high temp paint?

 

High temp enamel. Duplicolor engine enamel, low gloss black.

 

Did you really have to take it off to do that? Just curious.

 

How far up did you paint on the actual pipe? or did you just do the tip

 

No, but I wanted it to look decent, and I thought removing it would help.

My truck didn't come with one and I was thinking of painting it before it starts to rust.

how did you cover the rest of the truck if you painted all the way to the hook?

 

Just with painters tape and newspaper.
