I did some searching and am still confused because I found mixed info. is the stock exhaust tube 2 1/4" OD, or 2 3/8" OD?

My muffler is rotted and I was just going to slip on a new universal one with a clamp but need to know what size to order.

Yes, but the tailpipe is flared so measuring the OD there isn't useful and I'm not going to trust my side profile measuring skills on this.

Get yourself a set of calipers, they are super useful for all sorts of measurin' stuff.

I have a decent digital caliper I paid about $25 from a hobby shop. Autozone has them for like $15-$20.

Most digital ones will measure in both metric and red-neck.

just to confirm: if I buy a muffler with 2.25" ID it will slip over the factory pipe, right?

its actually a metric size. ppl just round it to 2.25. 2.5 will slip over fine too.

I was going to install the new one with clamps so I would prefer to get a close fit til I can weld it in a few months

Holley had their Flowtech Terminator muffler on clearance for $25 shipped on eBay so I ordered one with 2.25" ID. If I can't clamp it I'll just stop being lazy and drive a couple hours to my great uncles and borrow his welder to do it up :)
