    2019 Pro - 6 speed manual

Hi there, I'm a little lost lamb-ette who hasn't posted here since 2014 but read avidly because I've been a taco owner for the last 20 years.

I'm lost because I've never had a new model tacoma and I've never had a lease (for my remote cabin rental bz before anyone barks at me for leasing)

I'm under 5k miles. The nearest dealership to my home is 3 hours away. (I live very remotely in AR Ozark Mtns). I'm currently visiting my parents 6 hours away where there is a dealership. The truck was leased from a dealership several states away, because I wanted THIS truck with the 6 speeds.

The Issue: 2x truck has 'died' - while driving. lights flashed like crazy and no option but just to roll off to the shoulder if I was lucky to find one. Would crank again no prob and act like nothing happened.

A toyota mechanic at dealership here - who has 20+ years with toyota - said lots of error codes make him think it was a bad welding job on the exhaust. or whatever. (I am nothing of a mechanic. Pardon my poor wrench talkin'). Computer sensing there is an exhaust problem so shutting off the fuel is my guess?

Mechanic here, where I do not live or work, said it won't be until Monday afternoon - 4 days after he assessed (holidays) - that he'll know the full bill of health and what's needed / required to make right. Still then he doesn't know how long it will take for parts.

I've called the dealership several states over where I acquired the vehicle and lease. They seem to have or want nothing to do with my predicament.

What are my rights? Am I owed a loaner? Reimbursement?

I can't get answers from warranty line, road side assistance or anybody. Suppose I will call the lease finance office next.

One-off suggestion from a friend was to get a whole new truck. I shouldn't have ANY problems with a $40k with under 5k miles.

I realize that none of you all here are my therapist, lawyer or mechanic but I'm throwing this out to this here universe to see if something sticks or strikes a chord that can resonate back to me.

    Happy Thanksgiving fellow enthusiasts.
    Kindly,
    Virginia

Unless you were in the movie fast and the the furios and the mano-fold welds blew i'd find a different dealer. The tech is talking out of his ass IMO

Probably a crank sensor issue or some other one with a bad connection. The exhaust, due to bad welding, absolutely not.

However, yes, you are likely due a loaner while they have the vehicle and warranty repairs do not have to be done at the dealer you leased it from.

You've got a lot of warranty time left, get it towed to toyota every time it dies, then lemon law it ... that's what I would do, you can't trust it anymore.

Try reading your lease to see what you are or not entitled to.
Guarantee it spells it all out, who will pay for what repairs and if you get a loaner.
Anything else we tell you on here is speculation.

When the new exhaust was welded on, was the battery disconnected? Whenever you weld on a late model vehicle you should always disconnect the battery. There is a chance you could voltage spike the truck's computer.

The warranty is between the owner of the vehicle and Toyota...your just a tenant bro so you need permission from the owner.

Dealers are filled with scumbags, sounds like they are trying to take advantage of you.

This is a lease, let the dealership deal with it. You should be in warranty most if not all the lease period. Its not your truck, so not your problem. Just return it in 3 years and repeat.

Very good advice and a puts the onus on them. Not me calling around all over the place trying to get advice - which has been futile so far.

If you did not care for that Service Department you can try a different Toyota Dealership.
