Has anyone ever removed the stock Taco muffler, and replaced it with a simple "glass pack " type muffler instead of the more exotic " Cat Back System " this would certainly feed the need for more noise. as apposed to paying $350 and up for something that there is no real proof of benefit.

It's a bit more complex than that. A long time ago you could do that, before the sensors, preheat, back pressures and such. Not now.

I don’t see why you couldn’t take just the muffler out and replace it with glass pack or anything you wanted.. my truck has no wires sensors or anything on the muffler aft. I don’t know what it would do performance wise or sound wise. Might loose due to back pressures?

on this v6? it would likely sound like shit. I tried a couple muffler swap outs with flowmasters, sounded exactly like the exhaust fell off, each one lasted a day or so before I put the stock back on. Currently I chopped the tailpipe right over the axle, best sound so far, little bit more growl when you hit it and that's it.

I bought a magnaflow muffler, it was around $80 and welded it in myself. I honestly think is sounds better than most other exhausts I’ve heard. I for sure wouldn’t put a glass pack style on it tho.

Sound is subjective. Sound clips are poor resources compared to real life. There are a ton of mufflers and exhausts out there which complicates matters. I did a ton of research and put a FM 40 Delta flow on the wife's truck. She and I both really like it. FM is constantly bashed on. About all you can do is roll the dice and pick a quality manufacturer.

What about a switch selectable exhaust cutout?

I went with a 24 inch body I think 3 inch entry and exit. I’ll take a pic when I actually get up for work which is 8am. It’s 5:21am right now and I have no idea why I’m up haha. I cut the hangers off the stock muffler and bent them slightly and welded them to the new muffler that is why I chose the 24 inch body muffler so it’s nice and sturdy.

OP, is that your picture next to your post? Looks to me like you are old enough to know better (like me). Also looks like you might have been sticking glass-packs on 62 Chevy's back when it was easy and cool. Not still the truth today.

This is how I did mine. I used the this muffler magnaflow part number 12286. 2.5 inch Inlet and outlet. I didn’t purchase anything else I reused all the factory hangers from the factory muffler.

I absolutely hate drone and raspy exhausts, mine has very little drone for being dumped under the truck and no raspiness.
