    hello all,

I am more and more interested in the expo trailer world... But there seems to be so many options and designs I am torn. The price points seems to vary from 7-40k and anywhere in between..

What are your opinions and experiences with tear drops vs RTT/military style?

Currently I am looking at the Adventure Trailer TD and the Moby1 XTR. The turtleback trailer RTT also has my eye as its packed full of amenities.

I want something I can tow practically anywhere with my TRD OR so it must be rugged, on board water, power management and a kitchen are a must...

    What do you all run?

Do you mean like a TAB trailer? Don't get one of those for overlanding, you'll destroy it. Unless it is specifically designed for off road use, pretty much all camper trailers, even expensive ones are make with crap fiber board and will disintegrate off road.

I personally would get a military style empty trailer, put an expo rack and rtt on it. Build your own, IMO.

I'm talking about the Moby 1 XTR, Adventure Land Tear drop, or a socal teardrops, an off road test drop vs one of the RTT style military ones.

Build my own is kind of hard, military so I deploy and move around a lot, and having a bunch of tools, benders and steel laying around doesn't make it easy. Maybe someday lol

If you want to go tear drop - I looked long and hard at the Xterra out of Oregon. I ended up with a Taxa Tigermoth. My problem with the teardrops is that you can only crawl into a small window on either side and are cramped. With the Tigermoth, you can sit up right, walk into it and then lay down the bed when you are ready. And have the doors open/mosquito nets in place and just chill an enjoy.

When I first saw that Taxa last week I was in love! Here is a "ballpark" for a new one.

Would take some work and fabricating to get all you want on it, but I am loving my Smittybilt Scout Trailer. I still have a few things to add to it to get all that I want on it. Plan to add a ten to fifteen gallon water tank, either an ARB or smittybilt fridge and a Goal Zero power supply with solar panels. Added a full articulating trailer hitch, trailer has 31 inch A/T tires with 12 inches of ground clearance and independent suspension. Will go wherever the truck can tow it.

Was looking at that, hard to justify the 6k price tag, but it wouldn't take much to put water and plumb some propane stuff. Could possibly try to either build or buy a slide out kitchen type deal... I have On boar water on my truck I can slide over to the trailer....

And I do have awning and a RTT on order lol

I know what you mean, I had a hard time swallowing the price too at first. But now I am so glad I did. The old lady and I absolutely love it. Have all sorts of ideas to modify and add to the trailer. Already mounted reverse LED lighting and a 3 gallon Rotopax to it. Just have to save for other upgrades and should be able to get off the grid for extended periods of time.

Looks easy enough to add stuff too, my biggest thing would be the kitchen/galley everything else is easy, water, power etc.

Yep. I can see that. The drawer for the stove isn't large enough to actually fit a stove. I use that whole compartment as a pantry.

Yea I saw that in a review, I guess one could repurpose the slides and build their own, I'd prefer to have the fridge or cooler next to the stove, but oh well. Could build a slide out system out the back, but then loose storage.space lol. It's definitely a great starting platform though. I like the side drawers it has vs the CVT trailer not having it....

    Options.. ugh...

I just bring some tables with me and set them up under the awning. Have my cooking and prep area and use deep plastic squared mixing bowls to wash and rinse dishes. It seems to work. I love all the slide out trays.

Any issues with quality or leaking? The guy on YouTube had some concerns with water getting into his and the floor was tack welded so he sealed it with seam sealer to keep dust and water out.

I haven't had any problems. All gaskets on the doors seal out water and dust. Build quality on mine has been great. No issues at all.

$6k is hard to justify but you're looking at a Moby1 and Turtleback trailer that are 3x the price? Confused. If you want a trailer with full power management, kitchen and water and don't want to build your own, you're going to be well beyond the $6k price.

I don't understand these trailers. I wouldn't want to drag that around on the trails all day. But, that's just me.

6k is hard to justify for an empty shell of a trailer, the Moby 1 etc comes fully equipped, even then it's expensive.

I already said why I can't build my own, especially now that I'm being whisked away for another year of training once I get back from the deployment....
