Oh I missed that somehow haha. I understand the Aluminum front, save weight, not normal to really smash it on stuff unless you are crawling, rear could drag. I always go steel for rears mostly because of the integrated hitch. Aluminum sliders makes no sense to me. I've never seen a rig with those.

When out in the wild you are not worried about smashing into stuff while crawling. You are more worried about a animal strikes that can disable your vehicle and you will be stuck there waiting for an extraction. Steel bumper with hoops make the most sense to me when going on a long distance adventure. I would not sacrifice saving 110 lbs and going aluminum up front.

I don't know. I've seen aluminum bumpers take a hit. It appears that they are trying to save all the weight they can. Hence aluminum everything. That House on the bed must weigh a ton and the third gen tacomas engine already sucks. It would probably not be able to handle steel.

Front bumper with full hoops has got to be 130, full skids probably another 175, sliders are like 100, and rear would be another 100 unless they got a swing out which would probably bring it to 150.

So 505-550 pounds on a 3.5L V6 that has that habitat on the back. The thing would not run nice if they ran anything but stock tires. Are they regearing? That is a lot of weight for that truck. Plus constantly hauling 3-4 grown men.

Also explains why they didn't put front bumpers or sliders on the 4runners last season. Oh and the winch is heavy as well. Plus all the gear in the back. Damn that thing actually holds a lot of weight haha.

I enjoyed most of their episodes and I feel they are well edited and shot but if I hear Clay state that "it was a moment we would never forget" or "this was the greatest moment in our lives" one more time I might just have to stop watching. It does pander to my over preparedness lust and it is inspiring to get out there and plan some trips. I am excited to see their new build with the habitat!

Haha I didn't notice him doing that until one of my buddies pointed it out and I couldn't stop hearing it.

It's the worst, all the amazing equipment, planning and footage rendered almost unwatchable because of horrible narration.

I liked his narration for the most part. Some of it was repetitive, but not unwatchable.

Fair enough, I can armchair critique it all day but in the end they produce a decent show and I will probably watch the next season.

I really enjoy the videos, has a good mix of everything IMO. I have found that making videos of offroading/road trips can be extremely dull and difficult to make entertaining, which is why I give much props to these guys. I hope they keep making videos.

    Both :D

We helped with parts on the original builds, did projects on the 4Runners and the new Tacoma here in the shop but I was also a team member for the Central American trip.

I wasn't going to hijack but since it was brought up.....

How did the 4 runners treat ya? I really didn't hear yall talk much about any systems, ie the multi terrain, crawl control, a track, kdss systems. It seems on the new tacomas, toyota really tried to sell all the offroad goodies that most people will never use. But I never hear/read anything about the 4runner and it's "helpers".

Also while we are talking about the difference between the us/Alaska trips and the central America trip. It did seem to me to be a different feel, less joking, less off the path exploration. But after several central/south America drug interdiction ops with the military, we get an in processing security brief. There are a lot of things going on, if you didn't know what you were looking for, you wouldn't know what was going on. I don't blame them at all for what was in my opinion, being very cautious.

Either way. If bet a pay check no one here could make a better trip/documentary. My hats off to all of them.

Kurt if I fall into some cash I'll send my truck out to you to build for me
