It's not really much less equipment, basically you're describing a NW Wrangler dual battery kit. The National Luna kit just adds nice functionality such as monitoring, low battery and overcharge alarms, and intelligent charging of the system based on output of the alternator. Allowing your start battery to recoup after a start draw is importanthe imo.

Does anyone know if the general grabber at2's that they used, 285/70/17, were E rated or not? Still stuck on if an E rated tire is worth it or not on my build. I want to do a lot of more mild overlanding and will have a bed rack/RTT and goodies adding weight. Opinions?

Without getting argumentative I'd say what I'm suggesting can accomplish a "recoup" no problems, without the need for excessive electronics.

I don't know what theirs were but I can tell you I probably wouldn't ever put E rated tires on a compact pickup again unless I had to. They definitely zapped some power and economy, and for what gain? A little extra thickness?

Right and my foot can act as cruise control and windows down can cool off the cab too with out the need for "excessive" electronics. ;) Those excessive electronics are pound more than a simply dual bat controller and provide so much more function. Even if the circuit board of the Intelligent Solenoid were to fail, it would be early bypassed in the field.

Being able to monitor (and have a low battery alarm) with an integral system is hardly excessive electronics and in fact something many spec for their builds. I certainly wouldn't advocate everyone needing that functionality, but if they do the Nat Luna kit is as solid as any and time proven. XO is very power hungry, dozens of camera batteries, laptops, hard drives, microphones, quadcopter, etc not to mention the standard travel gear such as phones, radios, pc's, etc. Knowing the condition/level of a battery is key.

I've personally used National Luna kits for years, they were integral on the Land Cruisers that made it across 7 continents. Good enough for me.

Excellent, I'm glad they are letting the women get some wheel time. I may check some more out. Right now I'm in the middle of season 4 of Hell on Wheels on Netflix. Maybe after that.

off road in rocky conditions with a P or C tire compared to an E. I could care less about economy. I bought a truck, not a smart car
