I had a 05 AC and now a 20 DCSB. I am not looking to trade but if I was getting a new GEN 3 I would go back to the AC cab.

I am like you, I don’t have kids and no one has sat back there. I have the seats folded down and use it like I did with my AC, just put groceries and a cooler there. I have never thought to myself how I was glad I had the extra seats but I have wished a handful of times that I had the extra bed length.

IMO, the jump seats in an AC are lame. If you want an access cab, go for the utility.
The back seat in a DC is bigger than most cars. It can haul 4 people comfortably.
The best thing about the DC? The back seat folds completely flat.

I guess hauling around dogs are more agreeable than many people I know.

My first Tacoma was a 2012 TRD OR AC 4x4 and I only had it a year, the back seat was just way too small in the access cab for my son so I had to trade for a DCSB...he was miserable back there. All I've driven since 2013 are DCSBs and can only think of twice in the last ten years that I had to put the tailgate down to haul something, everything else either fit in the cab or the 5' bed. I thought about buying a bed extender so I would "almost" have a 6' bed if needed, but I can't even justify that no more often than I need that extra foot of bed space. The back seat is also pretty convenient when we have visitors in town or if I'm on a trip, then the dog has comfy place to lay next to my son. The DCSB works best for me but I know that's not the case for everyone, especially if you don't have kids or need the full back seat.

I have had both and currently own a 2020 AC 6MT Canada truck.

The 2 German shepherds I have have rode just fine in both AC and DC. Both are 100 lbs...

The longer bed makes it way easier to haul anything. Plus you can haul heavier objects because of the payload.

The one thing I really noticed was how quickly the AC trucks cool down compared to the DC. Seems to me that the rear seats hold a lot of heat in the summer, and takes a while to cool off with the rest of the interior.

If this one gets totalled or stolen, I would not hesitate to start looking for another just like it. Doubt I would ever find another just like though without going to Canada first. Good luck finding what you want!

I don't have any kids or people to haul around. Having the extra full doors is back is nice for groceries or other things you don't want blowing out or getting stolen. Yes, the bed is smaller, but I'll admit I rarely haul anything other than the trash to the dump every Saturday. I've had a couple extra cabs and always found them cramped.

Went from a AC to a four door SB and nothing I've carried would fit any better in a 6ft bed than it does in the 5ft. But having the extra dry space in the cab is way better than the ac cab and the suicide door complication in parking lots.

I had a double cab while my frame was being replaced. So technically I went from AC to DC back to AC. The extra space in the cab outweighed the smaller bed and if given a chance and need (i.e. insurance money) I'd probably get a DC. That being said, it wasn't nice enough to make me go out of my way to sell my AC for a DC.

That's crazy, I find my 65lbs shep/retreiver/jackass mix barely has any room in the rear seats of the access cab, even worse when there's a passenger up front.

I cheated. I removed the rear seats and made a platform for them.

But still they fit and ride fine.

I also made a platform for my dog. He used to be 100lbs, but was on prednisone for a year and went to 145 where he has stayed for years. He still fits and loves to travel. If you have a dog this is the way to go.If the removed the suicide doors on the 24s that kind of ruins its utility.

No suicidal doors is the deal breaker for me. Otherwise, love the look of the new extra cab.

If I win the lottery this weekend I'm going for a 2023 DC to compliment my AC.
