Experiences with CarMax?

I've had a number of positive experiences selling a car privately but realize that it is the exception. I like to keep my old vehicle until I get the new one ready to drive (rustproofing and accessorizing) so trading at the dealer doesn't work for me plus they usually give a lowball offer. In Vermont, you can even get the same sales tax benefit of a trade if you sell your old car within 90 days of buying the new one.

 

Sold our Prius to them during the pandemic. No regrets and didn't have to deal with private party sales and lowbalers. As long as you fill out the online form honestly, its straightforward.

Sold my in-laws Sentra to Carvana. Same thing. Easy process but Carvana came to us and picked it up.

 

Maybe selling my 2020 TRD Sport Auto, 4WD, access cab, 18,000 miles. CARMAX quoted me $35,600 - I think I'll wait for a while or go elsewhere.

 

2020 TRD Sport Double Cab. V6. Auto. Leather, LED and Premium Package. 9500 miles. $38,400 appraisal. With the rebates I got in 2020 its more than I paid for it 5 years ago.

 

It'd just be fair to take it and sell it right away

They only retain their appraisal for like a week until you need to get it appraised again
