I have a 2014 Tacoma TRD Sport, double cab, towing package, 3 inch lift/ level and 33 inch nitto terra grapplers.

We just got a 2015 MasterCraft X30 wakeboard boat and I have no idea if I can tow it... it's a big boat and I don't need to tow it that far... just a few local lakes. I assume the big question would be braking power? The trailer has brakes built in. What steps should I take to try to solve this question?

    Thanks

    Michael

What is the weight of the boat and trailer? Assuming you have a 4.0 V6, your truck is rated to two 6500 lbs

The dry weight is 4.7k pounds. That isn't including gear, gas or the trailer weight. I'm not quite sure how much the trailer weighs. It's a standard trailer that comes with the master craft wake board boats.

    Yes, I have the 4.0 V6 with t package.

If it seems to be a trouble just send the boat my way, ill take it off your hands

But..if dry weight of just the boat is 4.7k pounds, then with trailer and gear you will be essentially maxed out. Trailer brakes will help a lot. You should be just fine.

You'll know if your towing too much. You wont feel like your in "control". Im sure it will be fine, just take it easyy

If I can't figure it out Travis1209 I'll be looking to get rid of it! ;) I'll check with you first.

Based on what you said, I am guessing I need to figure out how to wire the brake controller in the tacoma.. man I am such a noob it kills me..

Actually I think my 2014 came with some wireing harness that is the EBC if I hook it up? Or makes hooking the EBC up easier?

So I did a spreadsheet (because I like spreadsheets! LOL). If the trailer weight is correct, with a full tank of gas in the boat, you have about 154 lbs left over for gear

I have personally towed 6129 (car on a trailer with surge brakes, trailer from UHaul) and it did fine. I hardly knew it was behind me. I was able to accelerate normally and brake well (need extra room, but it wasn't horrible)

We used to tow overloaded on the farm all the time. Just don't be shy with the revs. Keep it above 3000 rpms and drive ahead of yourself a bit.

Also having a brake controller will make it safer.

Have fun with your new boat!

Check your manual regarding towing. It references a code on the drivers door panel to find your actual tow-able weight.
My 2014 trd sport 4x4 dbl cab is actually only rated 6200lbs.
