You would think...my issue is I don't have a lot of time extra to dick around with these idiots...The next this is lots of pictures and a call to Toyota...I have owned 8 Toyota 4x4 vehicles in my life time and this has certainly soured me from ever buying another vehicle from them...

The other dealers in the area are even worse...they wont fix anything...Even recall items...I been through this in the past locally.

Just be careful about who you're blaming. Remember that a dealer is not the manufacturer. Car dealers are by nature, slime bags.

But, they are the representative of that manufacturer, when they cop and attitude that their shit does not stink and they are acting like they don't need your business...this really bothers me.

You should visit the NHTSA site and report the incident. Windshields shattering due to interior heat build up is one thing, but windshields breaking/exploding due to OEM installed equipment, i.e., rear view mirrors, Go-Pro mounts, etc. is most definitely not acceptable.

Windshields cracking because of temp differences is not a new phenomenon by any means. It happens all the time in warmer areas. As far as the dealership standing behind it I agree they should repair it under warranty but they stopped trying to earn your business when you signed the papers for your truck.

I wonder if this is happening because two things are on the glass in close
proximity (mirror mount and gopro mount) and that is what is creating a heat-cycle
stress imbalance whereas just the mirror mount alone would be OK with heat

Looks like third gens may become the catalyst vehicle that changes Toyota from the "most reliable manufacturer to build vehicles," to "the biggest pieces of shit which no one wants to buy."

Rightfully so also. This sort of BS is totally unnecessary, building cars is nothing new to none of these manufacturers. If anyone can build a solid vehicle, it would be Toyota, they have been for years, and are no strangers to the game, but clearly this issue stems from an issue like manufacturing. Using thinner glass to lower production costs. Inferior materials etc. etc. What happened to pride of craftsmanship?

This is what happens when you sub contract you parts to be built by the lowest bidder. They deserve all the flack they will begin catching for building these trucks so frugally soon enough when they are forced to perform warranty work by the government and no one buys their crap anymore.

So, I am blown away. At 1600 hours today, after having a really disappointing conversation with my "Service Representative", I got a call from the assistant service manger, Chris, at Ourisman Toyota of Chantilly. He told me he was present when I when I brought the truck in and looked over the windshield after I left and he agreed that this is a Toyota issue. He said he felt bad that the GM had said they were not going to cover it. He continued by telling me the he has contacted corporate, opened up a case and will run this to ground and get me a new windshield one way or another. He gave me a loner and told me he should have some progress and an answer by tomorrow. I have new respect for at least mankind, think this guy knows what it really takes to earn peoples trust, their business and loyalty to brand.

I had a similar experience at the Toyota dealership I bought my '04 from earlier this year. Every single person I dealt with, from the salesman to the service advisor to the finance advisor, was a complete and total asshole to me and treating me like I was either not worth their time or flat out lying to me. I had a few issues after buying my truck and dealing with them was a nightmare, they screwed up my paperwork and even changed numbers around that we had verbally agreed upon prior to putting it on paper (lesson learned there). Long story short, they were assholes.

Then comes along the sales manager, Tom, and this guy was a complete 180 from the rest of them. Went way out of his way to talk to the service department to help me out and get me what I needed, expedited the process, helped to correct the paperwork, etc. etc. Gave me his cell number to call him whenever I needed help dealing with the prick of a service advisor, which I took him up on. It's weird, it's like a good cop/bad cop routine that they practice. Regardless though, I flat out loathe the car buying process. Dealerships are windows into Hell on earth if you ask me.

Get on their Social media Facebook site and star posting it there, nicely of course, and stating a problem with the windshields and Toyota not standing behind their product. That gets a lot of visibility quickly.

Also the Highway safety site as mentioned and Edmunds, etc,

My SR does have the GoPro mount and I haven't had any problems but not sure about anyone else.

Not really. They're a private independent business.
