Two more questions - with the clamps only being in the corners, could you lift the middle section at all off the rails? Do you notice any additional road noise?

Darkknight, I have a question. A dealer test fit one on my '09 Taco yesterday. There was about a 1/2" gap between top and the top of the tailgate cap. Is yours like that? The front of the cover had a longer seal that to meet the top of the bed front but not the tailgate end.

No there is no gap between my top and the top of the tailgate. Did the one he test fit have a 1" gasket on the tonneau, mine does, to meet the tailgate?

The gasket on the rear of the cover is about the same as the sides, maybe 1/4". There is a bigger gasket on the front of the cover. I wonder if extang put the wrong gasket on the back. The dealer ordered a new cover and it should be in today. Maybe this one will have the bigger gasket.

Also something I didn't like was that there were some square seal pieces in the corners about 1.5". Two fell off during installation and they were grey and not like the other black seal. Besides falling off they looked funny against the black seals.
    Thanks,

    Rick

Definitely Rick, My top has the same size gasket on the back as it does on the front, which seals it tightly. I was about to answer your email but i think this takes care of everything right? My top had one of those side foam pieces laying in the box also, I stuck it back on, no problems yet.

Disregard the email. Were your square seal pieces black or grey? The model top at the dealer has black pieces and the one that came in yesterday had grey ones.

    Thanks,
    Rick

Weird. The one I looked at had black on the front and back with black on the sides in the long pieces, but the square seals were light grey. A little QC issue maybe?

I really appreciate the info and pics. The ones showing mounting in the rail system answered one of the questions I had.

I think I am out of questions. I was getting a bit discouraged about this cover but I feel better about it after reading your information.

    Thanks,

    Rick

I got one in the mail that had a few of those foam pieces that had already fallen off. On top of that, the other ones that were still attached looked like they had been cut by a second grader. I contacted Extang about it and they said they could mail me out all new seals however I ended up so discouraged by my initial impression of their quality that I sent the whole thing back. In my honest opinion, at their price point, heck at even 1/3rd their price point, seals should not have poor cuts, foam should not be stuck on crooked, and parts should not already be falling off. Extang is now not a "top notch" manufacturer in my book.

Well, I just picked up my Solid Fold cover. When I got home I noticed that most of the foam joints were poorly cut and one of the corner seals was missing but went back to the dealer and it was stuck to the box. Some of the gaps are as much as 1/4" wide. I can crawl in the bed and see light through most every joint. The tailgate seal is bigger than the one I saw yesterday but is still 1/4" too short. There are lots of scuffs and paint scratches as well. There was also glue smeared on the outside rails of a couple of sections that took me quite awhile to remove with some alcohol. Here a couple of my favorite pics. I am going back to the dealer to have a chat. I really like the design but the QC is nonexistant apparently.

Looks very similar to the condition mine came in. I promptly sent it back. No excuses for a product to be in this condition for the premium they charge.

Well, I went to the dealer I got it from and they pretty much blew smoke up my arse and told me to take it up with Extang which I will.

So tomorrow I will contact Extang and send pictures as well as a link to this forum. I hope their customer service is a good as everyone has told me it is. And I will post the results here for all.

Oh, and one goofy thing I noticed today while driving the truck is that looking in the rear view mirror the stamping pattern in the aluminum sheet has a very pronounced alignment pattern. The back two panels have lines parallel to the road and the pattern closest to the cab is about 30° off and is a bit distracting when looking in the mirror. I will try to take a picture in the mirror tomorrow.

I really like the cover and I hope Extang will work out the issues. I hope they have a company rep in the area and could look at what I got.

I have emailed Extang with pictures. Their customer support is supposedly very good. We shall see how good it is.

Good luck with it! I hope it works out for you.

I ended up getting an Access LE which I'm 100 percent happy with. The quality and finish on it were more like what I expected the Solid Fold to be at.

I do think the idea of the Solid Fold is great, and perhaps the quality on them has been better in the past, however I'd say whomever is putting the finishing touches on them right now at the Extang factory isn't doing a very good job.

I got a call from Extang about an hour after I emailed them the pics. They never offered to replace the top but are sending me a new hinge and replacements for all of the seals. They are also sending me a touch up paint pen that is probably in the box at the dealer. The lady was very nice and also emailed me a pdf file on how to replace the hinge.

Not a great solution, but I guess ok.
