My wife just had that clear self healing protective covering put on the front of her new Subaru. The guy that installed it is a small business owner doing it in his garage set up as a shop. I got to meet him and talk to him about this stuff and he showed me his truck that he put the same protective covering on his entire truck, except it was a clear matte covering. So it makes your paint look like a matte color to whatever your current color is. It looks like a factory paint job. Looks exactly like that picture.

Oh wow...That sounds killer, I love the MGM but have always wondered what a Matte MGM would look like on My truck. I'm putting front/rear glass on my truck in the next few months and toying heavy on the Matte gray MGM when I have it painted. Did you guys talk $$ This is the first time hearing about something like this and I'm very interested :hattip:

I think it would be awesome if you could get it done. That would be the ultimate Tacoma.

Its not cheap. My wife had the front bumper and quarter panels, and I think it was about $1200. The pieces are custom cut to fit from the manufacturer and then the guy needs to be quite skilled at putting it on. But its worth the protection. It literally self heals dings and cuts from the heat of the sun. Their demonstration is taking a wire brush to the covering while its on a car. Then pour hot water over it or a heat gun and it reseals.

well, the guys at stretchmytruck said they'd do it and their price wasn't outrageous. I think I'm going to look into it when I'm in utah next spring. I might just wait a few years until the 3rd gen is a little more dialed and live with an automatic transmission- silver sky metallic is growing on me, we will see.

thanks for all the opinions! I'll keep everyone updated.

Agreed. I've converted a car from auto to manual before. If you do it right and source all your parts without half assing anything it should work out just fine.

If you're gonna go to the trouble of hacking up Tacoma bodies, make something badass like an Access cab with a 5 ft bed from a DCSB on a regular cab frame for hard core wheeling or even a chopped regular cab frame with a 5 ft bed, Toyota "Samurai Edition" Tacoma
