You don't need to lower your rig. You just need to move the smaller boot side outward. Remove CV. Mark 1/2" from outboard for inner CV boots and inboard for outer CV boots. Slide boot to new mark. You may or may not have to remove the existing band to do this. Put on another pinch style band and snug the shit out of it. You'll know it's tight enough to not move when you see rubber pushing out of the holes in the band. Re-install CV.

Check that fins aren't rubbing. If you moved it 1/2" they won't be. lol

Yeah I've been thinking about doing the boot slide mod next time, or giving these O'reilly's ones a try. I was inclined to lower the lift anyway though to bring back some ride quality, these Kings get stiff as hell when you crank them up.

Cool. I didn't know if you wanted to maintain ride height. Some guys really like the tall look. My Kings are set to 1.5" of lift on #650 springs. They ride like butter but you are correct. The more pre-load you give them the shittier they ride. I keep mine low to keep the COG down. I've been in a few spots where if I was 1.5" taller I probably would have been on my roof. lol

Yeah mine are at about the same right now, 1.5" but on 600# coils. I don't have much issue with clearance and that's what the skids are for anyway lol.

I'll have to look into lowering mine then most likely. I have 882 springs on the double cab and 882 springs for my flatbed on the shelf so that's not ideal. Or tons and 40s /s.

Yeah if you don't have adjustable coilovers you might have to swap springs to lower it. 881s perhaps, they're the same spring rating (500#) but a half inch or so less lift.

I have the 881's with Taco Billies on the 2nd perch on my 96 Taco. They are stiff as fuck. My wife's stock 2009 4Runner is also stiff as hell. Guess the Kings on my rig have really spoiled me. They really are that much better then mid-range suspension set-ups.

That's weird the 881s would be stiff being only 500#, should be the same spring rating as stock I believe? Or close to it, but yeah if you have dialed in Kings nothing will compare to that lol.

I had 881s/5100s before Kings on this truck and they were really soft compared to my Kings when I had them cranked to almost 3" lift. But yeah that preload will kill ride quality fast.

I wanna send my Kings over to Accutune one of these days and get them revalved and dialed in, I think that will help a lot.

I'm going to pull mine and rebuild them soon. All 4 are pretty beat up after 10,000 miles of what I do to them. I'm happy with the custom valving job Filthy did on them so I'll just order the rebuild kit and go to town.

Filthy also does revalve/rebuilds if Accutune still has crazy lead times. They are both very good at what they do.

Well I've been wondering why 882s are even a thing since ARB doesn't technically consider them applicable to 1st gen Tacos. They are for diesel Land Cruiser Prado J90s. Makes sense with a heavier engine, winch, bullbar, etc. I bet they sit just as tall as an 881 on a fully built Tacoma. Now why they don't recommend an 883 on diesel J90s I don't know.

Almost contemplating buying another ext cv axle and have that as my backup.

Afterall they have a lifetime warranty; this way I'll always have a good cv axle in place and/or available.

Same for 3rd Gen 4Runner; they offer a variety of rear springs, some of which are really applicable to the Hilux Surf. But because it's ARB, they'll sell whatever they have to whoever will buy it.

I am pretty sure 880 881 and 882s are made for first gens or at least recommended for them but the 883s are the oddball. That being said I have 883s on 5100s on the lowest notch with an arb bumper no winch and 70 ish pounds in an ifs skid on a double cab. I had no issues with the cv boots tearing for 40k miles since the lift including a fair share of off-road miles. I just replaced both CVs with the normal oreillys replacements to runs for a while while I come up with time to re boot the OEMs because they were leaking at the clamps a bit. I pulled my sway bar 3k or so miles ago and the oem boots rubbed a bit more once I did that from body roll I assume, so I slid the boots on the parts store replacements and have no rubbing at ride height and very little with what little suspension travel ifs allows.

Great topic, and great reading. My OEM CV's, inner boots are both about to need rebuilding. I was going to buy a Boot Kit, then do the Bootslide Mod, until I found this thread. Now I'm rethinking.

In my neck of the woods, the TO8043ET's are $204.99 ea +$15/ea shipping.
I asked why the difference in price, given this is an O'Reilly related price.
    He said, location.

Is there anywhere else these CV can be obtained, cheaper?

They asked for my VA card or current military ID though.

I called back and inquired about the military discount.
That brings the total to $402.58 OTD.
That helps take off the edge a little.
