No mods void a warranty. None.
It's just damage caused by your mods is not covered. You are falling for the dealer bullshit if you think mods void anything.

It's a TOYOTA! There is no need to throw $700+ away. Set that money aside in a stock fund and and let the balance grow. The money will still be yours if something happens like a Total Loss during the Factory Warranty period. After the Factory Warranty expires, you will have an emergency fund to cover a water pump or god forbid a head gasket repair. I have owned the first year of the last three generations ('89, '95.5, and 2005) with only changing the oil. Another figure to look forward to is the resale value. If you have to pay out-of-pocket for a repair, you'll get it back when you end up selling it.

a lot of dealers try and turn that around.
they'll say oh well this mod broke this and that lead to this break.

its a bit of a piss off to need to fight for something you paid for.

I used to work for a place that sold extended warranties (not for cars though) - in the sales training they admitted that over 95% of the people that bought them didn't use it and it was practically pure extra profit. In fact, if you to totaled up all of their sales and overhead - the warranties were ALL of their profit. Which explained why they pushed their sales people so hard to sell them. Since then, I almost never buy one unless it's really cheap and there's a good chance I'm going to need it - like my 5 year old sons DVD player...

Can't you buy an extended warranty at any time, until the standard warranty expires? Seems to me that is the time to decide, not now.

At 7/75 you are really extending your drivetrain warranty by 2 yrs or 15,000 miles right? So if you drive the average 15 k a yr, you are really only getting one extra yr for $650.
Id love to get a good deal on the 8/125 myself. Wonder what his price is on that?

If you drive 75K miles in 5 years though, you're only getting 5 years of warranty right? That package seems to be geared towards really low miles driven per year.

By law they have to prove that the mods caused the problem. Not the other way around.

It's called the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

Dealers only get away with that crap when people let them get away with it. Know your rights and you'll never get ripped off.

The ONLY extended warranty I've purchased is for my Tacoma. I will be keeping it for a very long time. Insurance.

Extended waranties by the dealership are worthless. More than likely you will never use it especially if you are talking about a Tacoma. The biggest problem I have with them is that in the fine print they never say what happens to the warranty if the thrid party company goes out of business. You would be better off going through a insurance company like Geico which offers a much better product.

Everyone is talking about an extended warranty provided by Toyota Financial Services. Not a third party.

The one thing that concerns me about the Geico thing is this...
    1. I may have to pay Toyota out of pocket for the repair initially and then wait for Geico to reimburse me.
    2. I hear that Geico does not pay for Toyota parts and they may require cheaper aftermarket versions.
