Everyone's thoughts on extended warranties? I have been told different things regarding these. Some say I can buy one at any time up until the basic warranty runs out, others say I can't. I passed on getting one when I got my truck financed because the 8 year started as soon as I bought it but yet there is a basic warranty.

Extended warranties=worthless. This is my take on them also. If the product was any damn good to begin with why would one need an extended warrenty. It is just another tool to get your money

Oh and by the way If you are still set on a extended warranty I would consider your insurance company. I know my insurance company offers extended warrenties at reasonable prices

And if I get one more phone call from those third party extended warranty Douche bags, I might just blow a gasket. How do they even get your phone number and address to begin with?

That is a good point. I would still be leery of any car dealership warrenty. More than likely they are going to send you through a bunch of bull if you have a claim. Who do you think they are going to handle first the guy that is paying them 2500 dollars for repairs or the guy with the extended warrenty

    Not enough...
I bought Toyota maintenance/warranty up to 125K miles, because I plan on keeping this truck until the wheels fall off and because I came from driving BMW's for 8+ years and "one does not simply drive a BMW without a warranty".

I am just under 2 years and at 35K miles right now, so I am under original warranty still. Tried to get the dealer to replace a blown front driver side tweeter and was told they "could not reproduce the problem". I had the service adviser and shop foreman right in front of me demonstrating how distorted the sound was, but they "could not hear anything". I gave up, bought a replacement tweeter and put it in myself.

Few weeks ago I took it in for service and was told that I need to pay $305 for a brake job, which was a surprise to me. Partially my fault for not reading the service contract, but in 8 years that I drove BMW's the only thing I had to pay for were new tires. Brakes were covered under BMW service contract. Went elsewhere and got them done for $165.

Have to say, Toyota service is nowhere near BMW.... and this truck is actually more expensive than my beemers were.

Here's what I said last time:

"I take good care of my vehicles. I have been lucky and haven't had many problems beyond the initial warranty. I understand what you are saying, but...
Your extended warranty for $2000 is a $2000 bet that I *WILL* require more than $2000 in non-warranty repairs before I cease owning the vehicle.
For a Toyota. That doesn't make sense to me.
So, I will bet $0...yes, a whopping ZERO DOLLARS...that I will *NOT* require more than $2000 in non-warranty repairs before I cease owning the vehicle.
Therefore, I decline your extended warranty and choose to self-insure myself for $0. Thanks though.
Can I have my keys now?"

I bought that because these 2 minivan tranny fail on me one at 75k and the other at 9020141116_150637.jpg k miles. I learn my lesson.

i bought it since it's a new generation tacoma, plus the more features it have the more likely something might die. like mine blind spot monitor that gave out after only 1200 mile.

I purchased the extended warranty for my 2013 Tacoma and never used it. However, the Toyota dealership did give me some money back on it when I traded for the new 2016 Tacoma (there was some time left on the warranty). That was nice to get another 800 bucks toward the trade deal.

Good to buy if you wants to keep it for long time, Lots of electronics involved in today's vehicle will do it close to Factory warranty about to expire, that is my two cents
