Just an update for the OP: I called Jerry’s cell this morning and sent a follow up email to him. He called me back an hour or 2 later and processed the sale right then and there.

Should get an email of my paid invoice tonight and receive my booklet from Toyota in a few weeks. If you’re not in a rush he’s super easy to deal with. $1795 for 10yr/125k miles.

Just curious, does anyone know if I buy a used Toyota from Hertz (e.g. 2023 4Runner with 21K miles) if I could still buy a Toyota Platinum warranty for it?

You can but an aftermarket extended warranty, not sure about using Toyota source. Check with that Jerry guy mentioned and he’ll surely know about options.

If extended warranties were better for the consumer than the warranty company, they wouldn't sell them...especially not at discounted rates. The majority of people don't get their money's worth.

Better to take what you'd normally pay for the warranty, put it in a savings count or invest it so it's earning you some money...then have a on the off chance that something comes up, just pay for it.

Well, I ordered the 10 year 100,000 Platinum for $1,360 from Jerry Johnson yesterday.

My truck is covered until 2032 or 100,000 miles ( which ever comes first ) Most likely 10 years...truck has 14,006 miles average 7,000 per year.

    Peace of mind I guess!

    It is transferable just once.

It was a peace of mind thing for me. And being able to get that at a “discounted” rate is worth it to me.

Once. I was the second owner of my 2005 TRD OR, and warranty was tranferred to me. Used it to fix the collapsed tailgate that 2005 and 2006 were prone to.
Sold my 2005 when I left Alaska, and could not transfer the warraanty to the 3rd owner.

Or if coolant bypass pipe fails, you will not have to pay to have the engine pulled out.

I've got a 2016 w/ north of 120K miles on it and have no such failure...which is odd because I'm the guy that bad shit always happens to...lol.

If it hasn't happened to me, it's probably a pretty rare event. i know there is long thread here about it...but this is a small sampling of the big picture.

when you get your booklet make sure all the info is correct, especially the VIN. one time they got the VIN mixed up and had wrong VIN, was a mess to correct but finally got a new booklet with correct info.

Dealer price was about $3500 for 10/100k Toyota warranty. I told them they weren't shopping their competition.

Quote I got recently (60 days ago) from www.fd-warranty.com

Works out to $272/yr for the extra 5 years of powertrain warranty.

Warranty is good piece of mind. It’s just group insurance. We all pay in and when one of us gets in trouble it gets taken care of. Toyota ultimately comes out ahead and makes money but that’s not the point. If you don’t end up using it don’t think of it is wasted money just feel lucky and think of your buddy somewhere that benefited

I bought “extended service plan” for 10 years from my Toyota dealer, (not third party) the same time when I bought my 2023 Tacoma brand new last year. I “assumed,” extended warranty is part of it. I was too excited to clarify with the finance manager at that time. I dnk if things are the same, or different at my local Toyota dealer about extended warranty, with all Toyota dealers. I assume as long I bring my Tacoma to Toyota, every six months, warranty is okay. My bad. I too lazy to read my paper work.:D

Read the policy...dealerships sell 3rd party bullshit warranties all the time. The only one I would consider is Toyota ExtraCare (at least that's what it was called when I worked at the dealer 25 years ago)...Any 3rd party warranty is useless IMO....and most reputable shops will simply charge you for the work and have you go after the warranty company for reimbursement, because they're such a pain in the dick to deal with.

The paperwork I found is for some BS 3rd party service for oil change crap. I contact one of Service Advisors for my Toyota dealer, let me know what coverage I get.
Also, the ownership of my local Toyota dealer will change, because of some drama in their Service Dept. I dnk if will still get BS, or not.
