Good morning. I recently bought a 2022 Tacoma & I would like to purchase an extended factory warranty. Are there any online dealers who offer them at a discounted rate? Thank you!

Keep in mind that if you live in an area covered by a Toyota distributorship you won't be able to get an actual factory extended warranty. For example, here in FL we are covered by SE Toyota Mafia...errrr.....Distributors and the "factory" warranty comes from Fidelity Warranty Services (the SE Toyota Distributors warranty company), who also does their CPO warranties.

I would guess different toyota dealer would offer different prices to buy the extended warranty. They claim their already discounted when you ask that.

None to speak of, just enjoying it for the moment.
So this is an interesting topic. I have never bought one despite the 1000's of robo calls from car warranty scammers. I did purchase one for my new Tacoma, it is an unlimited milage, unlimited years forever bumper to bumper warranty with a $100 deductible. When I purchased my truck, my intention is to keep it for 20+ years. I typically keep my vehicles 10-14 years, but I am intending to keep my Tacoma forever. I know there is a long list of items they won't cover which are wearable items but there's a lot of expensive things that are covered. I got what I think is a great deal and maybe this will be a lesson to me or maybe it will be the best decision I ever made, I guess only time will tell, I'll let you know in 25 years if it was a good decision or not.

When i bought my Tacoma, my Credit Union gave me a rate and extended warranty that the dealer couldn't match.

You can buy the factory Toyota warranty from any out of state dealer and all Toyota dealerships are required to honor it, no matter what state you’re in.

If it's right for you or not is a bit of a gamble, just like all insurance is.

But there are 2 reasonable rules here.

    1) make sure it's an authentic Toyota warranty. Aftermarket warranties are hateful things regardless of what Chris Berman and Ice-T hawk.

note: Dealership 'lifetime' stuff is aftermarket, not Toyota.

    2) You can buy the legit Toyota product from any source, and every dealer has to honor it. Even SE and Gulf States regions (whom I dislike intensely)

So. If one feels they want the extended warranty, buying the right one at the best price is the way to roll.

100% spot on. An extended warranty is simply a bet, no more no less. You are betting that your truck will break down often enough, or badly enough, to incur more expenses than the amount of your bet.

Raise your hand if you think gambling is profitable. Anyone?

Call your car insurance company. Many of them offer the extended warranties similar to dealers for pennies on the dollar. I have Geico gave me a 100k mile extended 7 year warranty for $79 per year.

You can, but you'd have to use an out of state residence address then change it later like you moved. If you give them a Florida residence address they won't (or at least aren't supposed to) write it.

You're paying someone else to assume risk so you don't have to. It's up to you to weigh the risk and determine if the expense is worth it for you or not. It's no different than insurance, except that in the case of things like homeowners' or auto insurance you may not have a choice but to purchase them.

Which is an aftermarket policy with lots and lots of fine print and exclusions. Maybe you've read it and it covers what you want.

Another challenge with those is often the dealer requires you to pay, then you file your own claim, making you the person fighting over the small print.

    Pass for me.

That is not true. There is not some Toyota “mafia” banning people in Florida from buying factory warranties out of state. Who told you this?.. Your dealer who wanted to sell you their expensive 3rd party warranty? They are feeding you BS. Call Jennifer Taylor at Wolverine Toyota in Michigan, she will absolutely sell anyone in the USA an extended Toyota VSA extended warranty as long as the vehicle is <3 years old and hasn’t hit 36K yet.

For every car, truck, appliance, or software that offers a warranty protection plan, I take the cost of purchasing said plan and put it in my savings account instead.

So far, my savings account is not in the negative.

this is not true. the TFS VSAs are great. just dont let a shitty salesman rip you off and overpay for them.

correct, TFS VSAs are absolutely available for GST / SET region vehicles... just like 99.9% of the dealers do not sell them.

i do see some come through from time to time.

On the off chance that everything I had researched and been told was incorrect I contacted Toyota Financial Services directly to ask the question. They verified that if you are a Florida resident you CANNOT purchase a Toyota VSA (Vehicle Service Agreement) from Toyota. They also verified that the Fidelity Warranty Services product offered through Southeast Toyota Distributors was the "factory" equivalent product that was offered here in FL, and stated the coverage was identical to the Toyota VSA. In Florida, extended warranty sales are regulated like insurance and you have to be licensed by the state department of insurance to sell them. Toyota Financial Services is not licensed. Fidelity is.

I used the mafia thing as a joke because you have no choice but to deal with SEFT here in FL, but your statement that what I said was not true is incorrect. Feel free to verify and call TFS yourself.

no one that answers the phone at TFS has any control over what the dealer does. whoever told you that was talking out of their ass. if someone calls asking about buying a VSA the answer should always be "we don't have anything to do with that, reach out to your local dealer".

if wolverine toyota submits a VSA app through stratus or faxes one over, TFS's systems do not go "oh wait this dude is in texas! reject!"

Ok, so you're saying I can call an out of state dealer not licensed to sell these products in FL and buy an TFS VSA?
