they offered me the warranty for around $2k...I told them "If I have $2,000 worth of repairs in the first 100,000 miles...I would sell the truck and avoid buying any more Toyota products."

The salesman laughed and agreed, then dropped the issue.

I'm sure there are some real issues that people are having. Not arguing that.

    Not enough...
A negative Yelp review was definitely involved there. Conversation this morning went like this:

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.

Amend the review and say they sent a check to reimburse for the battery.

    Leave the rest though.

LOL let's agree to disagree you may be the exception to the rule but in most cases a >1000 repair can be expected over the years given the exponential increase in electrical components as well as cost saving measures which may decrease the performance of drivetrain items.

    .
IMO ... more long term extended warranties are being sold because ... (1) finance times are now extended to 84 months (2) people that finance out that far out do not want a big repair bill before truck is paid off (3) higher purchase price expense of vehicle in general (4) higher expenses of dealer service and OEM parts (5) peace of mind for a long term owner.

With extended warranties becoming more popular ... Toyota Regional Distributors and Large Dealers are getting into the business and getting state insurance bonds.

In SouthEast ... Toyota Dealers push SET Extended Warranties and not Toyota NA OEM Platinum warranties and that upsets me very much.

IF, I wanted an extended warranty .... it would be a real "Toyota NA OEM Platinum Warranty" ... not a 2nd or 3rd or 4th party Warranty. NO thank you ...

Bro.... Buy it immediately! Their quality control sucks and you will save yourself a lot of headache and sorrow if you get it now.

Can't tell if sarcasm or not. And it's a genuine factory warranty for those questioning.

It's not sarcasm. I bought a brand new 2013 Tacoma and wish everyday I could take it back. Last Toyota I will ever own. Every year it needs warranty help. Currently working with Toyota HQ to get the engine inspected and if needed replaced or a new vehicle.

Also, I got my warranty through group one and it lasts till 65,000 miles. I would recommend them since I never had issue with a claim or repair. Bumper to bumper

Thanks man I agree, my 15 didn't seem as solid as my 11 and my 11 not as solid as my 08, $1300 seems like a wise investment for a warranty for 125k.

Suppose I have been lucky. My wife has owned three consecutive Honda's, I replaced ONE alternator. I have owned a 1995 Dakota, a 2004 ranger and a 2007 Tacoma. One A/C evap core replacement. 6 vehicles dating back to 1991 (first honda) 25 years. Maybe $1,000 if I had taken the evap job to a shop, but I did it myself for about $200. 6 vehicles over 25 years, at least $6,000 for the warranties had we done 'em. A net loss of $5,800 that the dealers would have taken to the bank. As it stands, _I_ kept that in the bank.

Same here had and 10 Camry and a 15 Mazda CX-5 and never had a single issue! And now a 16 Taco and not one single issue on any of them. Would have been wasted money!

To follow up, My first vehicle was a 1968 Hemi Roadrunner. Zero failures even running it at the strip on weekends. Bought it brand new for $2,984 bucks. Next was a 72 Dodge Challenger (340 engine). Zero failures. Next came a 1976 Toyota Celica (the mustang-look-alike). Zero failures. We went through an AMC Concorde wagon, a 1981 Buick Century, then we doubled up with my wife driving a Datsun 200sx (pre-nissan days) and me driving a Datsun Maxima. Traded that for an 89 Chevy Astro van, then we hit the three hondas and my three trucks. Had exactly one significant failure, the astro blew a head gasket and hydraulically locked the engine, bending the crank and damaging the block. At 135,000 miles so no extended warranty would have applied. That is 50 years of vehicles, no failures within the first 100K miles on any of them.

That is why I say that extended warranties are simply charitable donations to the dealership.

Nice try, but you're not really comparing apples to apples here. The majority of the vehicles you've mentioned didn't have the complexity/technology and electronics these trucks/modern vehicles have. Any shade tree mechanic with half a brain, some tools and a Chiltons manual could maintain/fix their own vehicle. Heck, when I was 17 I bought my first car which was a '72 VW Beetle and most of it arrived in milk crates! My old man gave me a Chiltons manual and let me use his tools and I got that bug up and running and passed NJ State Inspection. The tech and electronics are what can cause a major repair bill, most of it being hunting down an electrical gremlin. Not saying it's a huge possibility, but it's possible and has happened.

I paid $900 for the 8 year warranty. $180/year ($15/month) is worth it to me to not worry about unexpected repair costs. There's are a lot more things than can go wrong in modern cars that there used to be. And those pesky electronics can lead to costly repairs. That and it's a redesign.

I would read the actual agreement. That does not sound like a good business plan and I have never heard of such a thing. Get it in writing. Ask how to claim the refund. This is very unusual IMHO, to offer a refund for the full amount. Never heard of such a thing.

If it is in fact true, and I'm not doubting you, but the person who told you that, then message the contact so I can buy that same deal.
