I am not going in to the complete list of vehicles that I have owned and what I spent on repairs that would have been covered. I will tell you that net net I am $12k - $15k ahead by not buying the additional warranty. This does not include the additional interest on the loan. I bought a 2013 Tacoma because of the reliability of my 2009 Tacoma and I like the truck. I bought the 2009 because Ford screwed me over on my F150. I am wondering about some people's motives on this thread. The only people I have seen that are so pro extended warranty in the business.

The dealer has touched my truck once in 6 years. The rest I do on my own.

Just for clarifications sake TFS does not allow extended warranty sales out of state anymore. You can check with the good folks at Acton Toyota but dealers were complaining about the online extended warranty deals sold by Troy, Jerry at Midwest, etc.

On a new Toyota you have 3 years or 36k miles whichever comes first to buy an extended warranty. Don't feel pressured to buy it when you buy your vehicle. Shoot emails off to all of the toyota dealers in your area or state to get the best deal.

Toyota Certified used vehicle purchasers must buy an extended warranty at the time of purchase if that is what you want to do. And it will cost more. You are buying a used vehicle.

Again it's a trade off, risk vs cost. Some are willing to take the risk and come out on top some don't...fact is most people don't come out on top or do you think toyota like to give money away?

I'm not a "fan boy" either, I come from a line of Jeeps, Hondas and Subarus. The last 4 Toyota we had ran well in their 200Ks without any issue what so ever. An extended warranty doesn't run forever, so any of those problems can happen well after the warranty ends and it will do nothing for you at all. People don't understand that they just buy a "window of time/mls", before, all is covered anyway, after, doesn't help you either. Every manufacturer has calculated that risk and offers a product that in the big picutre makes them money, Toyota is not nice enough to offer a warranty for less than they expect to pay out, simple as that.
I do all maintenance work myself and can do tricky repairs myself. If you have to run to the dealer to get a light bulb fixed then you might be an easy target.

I know I'm doing it right because I came out on top every single time by not buying expensive add-ons and paying cash for my vehicles, but everyone has to draw the line somewhere for themselves.

I see you have a 2014. May I ask how long do you expect to keep it?

Do you know what a TSB is?

thanks, but it rocks nothing right now. :(

All those 'quality' Toyota parts like the engine and some others have failed, but at least I was lucky and never bought a extended warranty so the thousands of dollars are coming out of my pocket to fix it myself

correct me if i'm wrong...I'm looking for the warranty info... but I believe it says after so many miles and/or so many months you get the (extended warranty) monies back IF you do not use the extended warranty for any purpose on the said vehicle. I remember the BIG selling point was...if you don't USE the extended Warranty you get YOUR money back.

Generally you can cancel with a penalty and then receive a prorated refund for the time or miles not used, but they can all be different.

I believe with TFS you have 30 days for a full refund minus a service fee. After that it is pro rated.

    My opinion:
07 Highlander, failed o2 sensor yesterday; my cost 260 part, 110 analysis, 110 r/r labor, plus tax, shop fee, etc. call it $500. Pluse they gave me a loaner. (dealer cost was a whole lot less of course)
I paid 650 for the 8/75000 and still have a year to go. So w/in 150 of my cost on 1 part.

I'm looking at a best price on my 12 Prerunner right now.
