The only reason I bought an extended warranty was because of all the electronics. I have the entune upgrade, the dual climate etc. I initially refused but the dealer pointed out the cost in electronics. I still refused, he bought down my interest rate by the amount of the warranty so I accepted. If I didn't have all of the electronics I would not have accepted the warranty.

Extended warranties are largely useless if you plan on keeping the car beyond the life of the loan (if you have one and went more than 3 years on a loan). The money saved each month without a car payment can pay for those one-offs that happen in the later years of the car. Some insurance companies offer a better plan that costs way less if you really wanted a warranty beyond the 3 years. Most if not all of the things a dealer tries to sell you can be bought from your insurance company much cheaper. While I put over 50% down on my truck, I still pay the extra 2 dollars a month on top of my insurance for a 20% additional payout in the event the car is totaled. Last few times I bought a car, they tried to sell me that crap at the dealer for well over 10-15 bucks extra a month. In the end it's your money though and your call. If you want that extra safety net then go for it, I haven't had any post warranty catastrophic meltdowns that costed me more than what I saved post payoff over the years.

My dealer fought pretty hard for me to get the platinum warranty, got it down to 'cost' (which is a joke.. how does a warranty COST anything until you use it?) which was right around 1800 plus he bought my interest rate down to 2.1 from 2.3. I ended up passing with full intent to shop around and just buy one outright, and he said he'd keep the interest rate at 2.1 for me.

In general I never buy extended warranties on anything, (and in general, I never buy new vehicles, until now!), but since this is a first year model with new engine and transmission, and given the amount of electronics that are in it, I'll probably bite if I can get it for a good deal somewhere. Lord knows auto makers aren't eager to issue TSBs and recalls until a significant number of people get it fixed through their warranties first (or, you know... litigation. :)). I had to deal with my melting dash in the Camry for 2 years before they recognized it as a 'warranty enhancement' and replaced it.

TacoBella has posted the information above. Follow it and it will lead you to some great deals on extended warranties. I just received my paper work in the mail last week. 8 year/ 75,000 mile zero deductible for $835.
    Thanks.

    I'm wanting a 6-7year 100K mile ext warranty
Is Toyota offering this or do I have to go with secondary supplier.
what should I expect to pay for a 2016 OffRoad 4 wheel drive ext warranty?

Actually my truck is still at the dealership, I dropped it off last night and have yet to hear back from them. I almost feel like Toyota should add an extended warranty for my truck on the house for all the hassle and headache I have had with it so far.

I'm waiting to see how the truck does over the first 3 years/36,000 miles before I buy one. You're getting charged redundantly if you buy it before that point. Anyone selling them today and cutting deals for a brand new truck can cut the same deal when the truck is at 20k miles or 30k miles as long as you do it before the manufacturer warranty expires/runs out.

The extended warranty cost me less than $14 dollars per month. I can't buy a case of this great tasting apple cider for $14.image.jpg

I bought an 8 year extended warranty. Three of those years are the 36 month already included. So essentially I bought a five year extended warranty for $835/60 months equals $13.92 per month. I think its the best fourteen dollars a month I spend. Zero deductible and a lot of peace of mind.

Insurance companies make money. Lots of money. And you know why.

I understand the need to have the product for a variety of things. But you can over insure.

There are a lot of historically short time owners here. Are all of you with extended warranties gonna bail in the last year of your warranty?

If you feel you must have one, do it the TacoBella way. The dealer is fear mongering, offering you someone else's product, and they get a piece of the pie too, so you're overpaying. Yea, I know they paint the 'roll it in the payment' picture, which lets them get interest too. I just hate debt so much the thought of all that makes me cringe.

I will say I had an extended warranty on one vehicle (out of 50+, I've only had 3 that were new) and I did use it for an AC rebuild. The value was more than the premium I'd paid. But that was a Ford. :D

No interest on the extended warranty as it was paid in full. I spend more money on arcteryx jackets or indoor soccer yearly fees.

I keep getting calls "This is so-and-so from the Vehicle Warranty Department". I say "Toyota Warranty Department?". "No". After some back and forth they finally say the company is called Vehicle Warranty Department. Seems suspicious and I think they hope people assume it's from their vehicle manufacturer.

My 3 year is up this month and I'm undecided about getting an extended warranty. Leaning towards no.
