I want the extended warranty, but I'll have to read through it first to see what it actually covers before signing.

I got the warranty along with the service package and paint package when I bought mine...

In hindsight, I must tell you it's a COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY and a COMPLETE RIPOFF!!

When it came down to actual repairs, the stealership always tried to find excuses for exclusions if it ended up costing them money.

Do not trust the Stealership. Trust the Tacoma, trust Toyota Headquarters...but NEVER the Stealership.

when asked if I wanted to purchase extended warranty I said yes if this wasn't a Toyota.
my older Tacoma had 150k on it when It got stolen, im inlaws have 200k and 220k on theirs
and still running. my brothers Toyota had 350k on it before it died and people still offered
to buy it. my brothers broken Toyota was in more of a demand than my working chevy Silverado.

Yep yep yep......I am glad someone is getting it. People need to stop giving away their hard earned money to these companies. These companies do not care about you. If the product is good why would I need an warranty and a extended warrenty. The same could be applied to computers and appliances as well. Matter of fact your car insurance sells extended warranties which are cheaper and may be better than that crap the stealership wants to sell you

Until you go to sell your truck privately and the buyer has NO risk because you are transferring a 100% Platnium VSC to them. They are fullly covered for another 3-4 years and 60K miles.

That is why I buy them (only from those who sell them at deep discounts) I paid $1050 for 8/100K Toyota VSC

I can transfer it to the new owner who will pay more for my truck over a "certified" truck because mine is covered bumper to bumper for a much longer time and many more miles. Or I can cancel it and get $700-$800 back after three years, Really a no brainer for that kind of money. That said I would not pay much over $1000 for one.

I sell 90% of my vehicles privately and the cost of the VSC always gets me more money and a quicker sale. I would buy a used truck with four years and 60K miles of bumper to bumper coverage and pay more for it.

I love how they always try to scare you into buying one. When we bought ours the other day he came back to it after I refused the first time trying to say the computer is like your home computer and has a short life cycle that is bound to go out. I've had about 12 Toyota's with nothing but great experience so I'll save my money for mods.

I will say this. I have had a great experience with this dealer so far. Got a great price on the truck and he isn't really pushing the warranty. Mentioned it once and I have since said no and he just dropped it.

Those considering extended warranties need to keep in mind that these yr/mileage #s are the 'total'.

As in subtract the standard warranty from that, and the difference is what you are buying.

Everyone knows that I'm sure, but tend to forget. It puts the value proposition in a different perspective. Also, extended warranties can be purchased anytime before the basic warranty expires. Waiting may cost more (not always) or it may save you a bundle.

    - you may have already disposed of the vehicle
    - you may have totaled the vehicle. There is no compensation for unused extended warranty
    - you may find you have a rock solid vehicle, and lots of it's brothers and sisters already have 2-3x your mileage issue free

I bought one once. And I used it just before it expired. The work was valued at more than the warranty cost (AC system). But it was a Ford. :anonymous:

PS edit. The dealer wants to sell it to you because they make a bundle on it. VERY high margin. Guess why? Because very low claim rates.

Take $ and put in a mutual fund. If you end up needing $ for repairs at least it's earned a bit for you in the mean time. I've owned enough Toyotas that I'm not worried about this one in the long run, and there is always the factory warranty for sorting out whatever hiccups and growing pains the new model may have.

at my dealer it was the guy that you sit with signing all the paperwork that offered me the extended warranty. i think that's how he get his bonus $$ if he sell it at full markup. he will not offer much off since anything he takes off comes out of his pocket. just guessing...

Hello, new to the site, just bought my first Tacoma Limited 4X4, been waiting to buy one since I first saw one in the movie "back to the future" always ended up buying Fords. NO MORE!! anyways I have been reading everyone's posts "past & present" about Toyota Extended coverage and the history aboutn "Jerry at Midwest". I live in NH so I couldn't shop out of state due to the new Toyota rules, but a I found a guy after calling literally 7 different dealers and got a price for the 2016 Limited 7yrs@125k 0 deductible Platinum for 1350.00 Genuine Toyota VSA. Everyone else including the dealer I bought the truck from gave me there stupid excuses of why they couldn't budge from 2395 to 1900.. I am happy with that price even though its no where near what Jerry at Midwest was selling years ago. The guys name is John Pavnick at Rockingham Toyota in Salem NH. Good luck shopping around.

^^^ Good people to buy from for the real ... "Toyota Corporate Warranty".

I never buy an outside or regional warranty ... "ONLY Toyota Corporate Warranty".

In SET, they push their own warranty, that I don't like.

    READ the fine print ...

    I couldn't agree more!

Try this...when negotiating a deal for your truck tell the dealer you want the warranty, you want to finance it through Toyota (or what ever finance company he uses) w/credit life insurance and you have a trade (make it a vehicle that has a high demand like a Camry or Highlander but your wife is driving it today. Then after he gives you a price tell him you are going to pay for it using another option and you decided to keep your trade. Then see if he holds the price he gave you...

I'm on the board of a local credit union and our rates range from approx. 2.5% for 36 months to 4% for 60 months We will finance 100% of the vehicle cost and the loan original fee is $25 and we DON'T require credit life insurance as some finance companies will "suggest" you need to buy. If your investments are earning better than 2-4% you are better off financing the vehicle than paying cash..IMO. Also, if you finance the extended warranty in the deal your cost is substantially more than the quoted price.

actually that's not how it works with Toyota, they based each vehicle on a different tier. most suv/trucks will fall into the T3 tier (4runner and Tacoma are in the same tier)

and the pricing will be dependent on what year/mileage combo with the mileage the big factor once you hit the 125k matrix

if you keep the mileage at 100k or less the price is really cheap no matter the number of years.

    back in 2014 for the 4runner :

    8/125 = 1424
    8/100 = 1039
    8/75 = 709

    7/125 = 1169
    7/100 = 889
    7/75 = 594

    6/125 = 1019

    5/125 = 799

this was pricing for before the hammer came down from Toyota and I was locked out of buying from out of state.
