Seriously....when my warranty expires, A Damn Typical over charging Toyota Dealership Service Department is the last place in America my ass will shadow their service lane. If you find enjoyment in paying 175%-225% over reasonable repairable hourly rates, by all means its your hard earned money.

If you buy a warranty buy the actual Toyota warranty or an exclusionary policy from an A+ rated outfit. If you mod your truck however, DO NOT BUY IT. Every warranty has a clause that says only modfications approved by the manufacturer, NOT THE DEALER, will be coverable.

    I am in the business.

Half of my time buying the truck was them trying to sell me on an extended warranty. It was almost like that time i decided to talk to the time share people to get a few gift cards during my vacation. If its a big repair after the basic warranty ill eat the cost. you can get alot repaired for the price of the warranty.

I went to two local Toyota Dealerships and they both offer extended (through a third party company). I dont think an extended is necessarily from Toyota if you buy it from Toyota. May be that I am outside of the 3 year/36000??

Toyota does have their own warranty but most dealers offer 3rd parties because of state rules/regulations on pre owned vehicles and they get a bigger "kickback" commission on 3rd party also.

I have the platinum 8 yr/125k miles but ONLY because Toyota gave it to me
for all the issues this 2016 had, otherwise no, I wouldn't have purchased one.

What issues has your 2016 had? I tried to get Toyota to extend mine with no dice due to issues with my 16.

Like some said, read it. But....Warranties and Insurance are only scams until you really need them. lol I would rather make payments over a long period of time than pay out of pocket in large sums for stuff that could be covered. I have a 2018 too so that also played into my decision.

Sadly.....all of them. Pretty much everything you've read about, I had it. 15 different issues and the last
was the dreaded 3rd brake light leak that soaked the interior. I tried to get the extension after the first few
and after the diff leak too. They finally gave it to me after the 3rd brake light leak fiasco.

IDK, I got an extended warranty just for piece of mind, through Toyota since it was a certified pre-owned. It's only a couple bucks a month (total cost was only like $1300 or something for platinum coverage, 8 additional years, 100k miles additional).

Am I a sucker? MAYBE. But so far it's been decent to me, as it covered my third brake light TSB (they said that alone was nearly $400+ or something.

I didn't get the extended on mine when I bought but am thinking of getting the Toyota extended warranty. I only have 6K on my truck and heard on here that you can buy the warranty up until the original factory provide warranty expires.

IIRC someone here found a dealership that was selling over the phone on the East Coast for fairly cheap.

The pressure to buy the extended warranty was ridiculous. I held firm....no no hell no. It made the buying experience suck.

You just need to understand the business behind extended warranties to know it's not in your favor.

It's a business that relies on the initial upfront cost to keep going. Out of that money they have overhead expenses, employee salaries, commissions, payouts and they're still extremely profitable. An extremely small rate of people come out ahead on an extended warranty.

An extended warranty is just another form of insurance. If you never have to use it, it is a 100% waste of money. But the day it covers a huge expense, any owner will sing praises about that extended warranty.

Now, what are the odds it will pay off? Hard to say...but I guess I will enjoy the peace of mind.

I’m buying a 6yr/100k for $800 from Toyota. That covers me until 2024. To me it’s worth it just for piece of mind. I’ve blown that kind of money on worse things than that. Hopefully I never need it.

you logic is flawed. You assume that the warranty will be needed. i would rather pay for something when its needed and not wish / hope if it breaks i will break in my warranty period.

You did a little better than me... I paid 1300 for a 6yr/100k zero deductible warranty. Dealership started at 2400... This was for my 2019 Offroad I bought two weeks ago...

I don't think anyone hopes for a breakdown during their warranty period... and to respond to your logic, I would rather have it and never use it, than wish I had it and get boned on a huge repair bill.

Extended warranties are a total gamble. But when you "win" (ironically, winning means your truck breaks but your warranty pays off), you win big.

Here's another reason I think the warranty is worth it on these trucks. There's so much complexity and tech just in the engines alone. How much does it cost to replace direct injectors, a HP fuel pump, VVT-I components, an ECM/PCM? Lots of things that can fail in a 40k mile window, and any of those are $$$$ fixes.

I'll gladly roll the dice on the extended warranty. To each his own though.
