    Not enough.
thinkin about this too. I got 80 bumper to bumper with mine and i'm half ways through.

How was the extended warranty a waste? Did it not cover as much as the original?

Yes, i bought mine at 34K from Troy Dietrich of Toyota of Greenfield in Mass. Search for him here on TW, he offers one of the best prices for an extended waranty. Paid $880 for the platinum 100K /$0 dectible coverage. I used it earlier this year when my HVAC blower motor and resistor board went out.

I just bought a 2010 DC LB SR5 4x4, the extended warranty (7 years/125K miles bumper to bumper - $50 deductable) was about 650 bucks. They got me because the default financing was 6.9%, but they decreased it to 3.34% or something like that, making the warranty an extra 10 bucks a month.. can't really argue with that.

I dont like them. It appears in every warranty I had, the parts i needed seem to be never covered. Take the extra 1000 put it into a savings account and wait for something break.

I will probably get it, just because I have a manual tranny... it would cover that if it wore out right? Or would that just be general ware and tear and not be covered?

I also have to worry about that manual tranny squeek thing that tends to happen. Just to many little annoying things to not get it.

You'll probably need it less for a manual, but it does cover a lot of the electronics and AC, they can cost a lot. It's a coin flip as to whether it is worth your $ but it does offer piece of mind. Besides, getting the genuine Toyota warranty at a reduced rate from someone like Troy of Greenfield makes the bite a lot easier to take. The dealer you purchase the vehicle from tends to try to make a lot of you for the same thing.

I usually drive my 09 4x4 Taco about 10 to 12 thousand miles a year so I went with the 8 year 100,000 Platinum for about $1100. I hope I never have to use it for 8 years of problem free driving but even if I need it once I will probably get my money back.

I recall reading the threads about the tranny squeak, that those parts are "wear items" and not covered after the 3/36k, regardless of the extended warranty. Must be that small print that was mentioned before.

I look at it this way, I buy a Toyota because I believe it is reliable, so if I buy the extended warranty I dont believe this?. They are selling an extended warranty because they believe it is reliable, they have more money than I do so why should I take this bet?

An extended warranty is nothing more than an insurance policy. How many people go out driving thinking they are going to go out and get into an accident. no one thinks they are a bad driver, but yet they pay a premium to have insurance. I'd rather have an extended warranty than not. For one thing, I don't want to have to come up with several grand if my AC were to go out in the middle of a Virginia Summer. It cost me and my wife $3K for a GM factory warranty for her 05 Equinox and that was the cheapest online price. My Tacoma was only $880Toyota, GM and every other car manufacturer base their coverage on the risk your vehicle might break down.....just like an insurance policy....go figure.
