I just purchased an extended warranty (10yr 100K package) for my 24 OR with Oroville Auto Center. The service plans are extremely competitive and Richard was truly attentive during the application process (all done online via email). Can't thank him enough. Here's his contact.

Highly recommend the purchase, imho. Remember, the issues that may surface on this vehicle is 80% electronic and 20% mechanical.

When I bought my 17 in 2016, the Linace guy said the same thing...

How much was the extended warranty?

"80% electronic and 20% mechanical"... and may me more true today with the new models... Would prefer all contact Richard directly since he quoted the rates and would like to see him get additional business without another dealer matching his offer. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

Just to make sure, is this the actual Toyota warranty or is this some 3rd party crap? My dealer didn't even try to sell me a Toyota warranty, they tried to sell some Larry H Miller / Asbury motors bullshit. The finance guy was visibly annoyed when I told him I don't trust 3rd party warranties.

I agree... The one I purchased is from Toyota - contract is labeled as such...

The finance guy was annoyed with me on Monday, too. I kept telling him I’m not interested. He kept telling me he was required to recite the sales pitch. A complete waste of time.

as a tech at a dealership. extended warranties are good. nwan/route66 /all state are good warranties. buying one on a used out of warranty vehicle that is known to be not the most reliable is a very good decision. buying one on a brand new toyota is kinda a waste. mainly because of that 10 year warranty only 5 of it is good really. the first 3-5 toyota is going to cover it all. so you are really only getting 64,000 mile maybe 5 year warranty.

Agreed, but the cost of the contract (platinum) for 4th-10th year, full coverage (no maintenance related issues), is minuscule compared to a visit to the dealership, imho.

And paying for that (really 5 year )warranty for the life of the loan at 6%+

if you want warranty coverage later in the life of your Tacoma, you can buy a really good one, pay monthly for less than $90/month…….direct billed, no interest payments, cancel at any time…….

This right here. I bought my 23 TRD Sport last fall (Oct 23) slightly used (it had 7900miles.. practically new.) The dealership wanted to sell me a 3rd party extended warranty for a ridiculous price, I said no thanks, still got two years and 26000 miles to go on the factory warranty. Fast forward to today, I just bought a 10 year/100,000 mile/0 deductible Toyota Platinum extended warranty from Jerry Johnson at Midwest Toyota for just $1360.

There is never any need to rush to buy an extended warranty right on the day of the sale unless they offer a crazy cheap price for an authentic Toyota extended warranty like what I paid above, which they almost never do… they usually try and sell you 3rd party warranties because they make a much higher profit and you’re worn down and ready to close the deal, and it’s easier to roll it into the loan “for just $15 more per month.” Don’t do it. In fact if you resist and ask them for an authentic Toyota Platinum extended warranty and price it out they tend to balk or quote you an even higher price.

    Congratulations, you understand MONEY………
Car buying today is all about IMPULSE BUYING………gotta have it, color, options, warranties etc……

    EVERYTHING is negotiable…….and you should…….

I lost my garage and everything in it, thanks to Hurricane Beryl……..

spent days on the phone negotiating with auto insurance over valuations and payments, as well as dealers trying to find replacement vehicles………

lesson learned, you’re just a number on a spreadsheet……….and you will do the best, if you look at your next Tacoma the same way…….

Mr Toyota made a lot of Tacoma’s, you don’t have to have that one……and IF the dealer picks up on that vibe you have a little leverage…….

or you could set aside $90, or whatever money you want, a month in a high yield savings account at 4-6% interest yield and have plenty of money saved to cover a catastrophic expense by the time you are outside the factory warranty and if you don’t use it/need it, save it for maintenance from that point forward for the truck, payoff that truck if you haven’t by that point, go on a trip, add those mods you wanted, put a down payment on a boat, etc. This would be my advice.

    Really?
    fYI………$90/month X 12 = $1080 (per year) X 5% High yield savings account is another $50 per year………..that’s 4 hours labor plus parts. At a Toyota dealership…….

I’ve declined extended warranties most of my adult life, almost 55. I’m ahead with regards to extended warranties versus repairs. The average repair cost has to be lower than warranty cost otherwise they lose money. It’s like the casino, odds favour the dealer.

True for the most part, unless you get a super cheap warranty. In my case, I paid $1360 for 10 years/100k Toyota platinum extended warranty. My last 4 cars, I most definitely spent a lot more than that in that time frame… in one car’s case, thousands more. With all the electronics in today’s cars $1360 is a cheap sum to pay for insurance against them crapping out. If you price the cost of even just a backup camera and/or screen you’re already just about ahead after the first visit.

At the end of the day it all amounts to how one feels about insurance…that’s all this is. You’re spending an amount of money up front for peace of mind that the amount you just spent on the warranty is going to be less (in some cases a lot less) than the cost of the repairs had you not had the warranty. I was willing to gamble that, given the odds with all the electronics and such, I’d be spending a lot more than $1360 over the next 10 years/100k miles with stuff that breaks. If nothing breaks I still have the peace of mind. Win/win in my book
