exactly. I buy insurance against things that would be financially ruinous, recognizing that overall I’ll likely pay more than I’ll recoup. When the potential downside is hundreds of thousands - or millions - of dollars then self-insuring isn’t feasible for me.

vehicle repairs? I’d rather self insure since there’s nothing that would be a financial disaster. Others in different situations may choose differently, and that’s fine. Just don’t pretend to be beating the house.

10 pages of posts arguing down to a personal decision of risk.
Your personal financial situation plus personal history in previous ownership plus trust in the manufacturer will dictate whether you personally feel the insurance of an extended warranty is the right fit for your circumstances and peace of mind.
There is no right or wrong answer, only what allows you to sleep better as the owner. And only you can make that judgement call.

If going the extended warranty route, then OEM is most often better than aftermarket (purest form of extension and knowing that anything necessary will still be OEM and not generic).

If going extended warranty, the list prices are hyper inflated for the financing dept to make a profit on. You will do better in nearly every circumstance getting quotes prior to purchase from the two or three dealerships that are happy to provide online sale of factory extended warranties. This may greatly influence your risk/comfort calculation.

This all falls into the same camp as someone who with say that the warranty was wasted money if never needed and another arguing it was money well spent to never lose a moment worrying about "what if...".

Your life, your circumstances, your stressors, how long you plan to hold the vehicle, what changes/mods you plan to make or not make, and your wallet determine the best decision for you. Not a single other person or avatar on this or any other forum will know "better".
