The one risk I see with waiting is a significant price increase.

Been driving Tacomas since 2002. Put 100k+ on a couple of them. Current one is 10 years old at 126k. No issues ever.
Regular maintenance is all you need.

I’ve been driving them since 1985. This is the first one that has me seriously considering extending the warranty period. Lots of computers and tech in the vehicle now.

With Toyotas prorated refund payment, you gain ZERO by waiting until 36K, but lock in todays pricing….

Today, I bought a Platinum Toyota Warranty, zero deductible for my 24 Tacoma Sport…….
My Tacoma Lives in TX, and bought it from Richard, out in Oroville, CA.
    530-854-0458 personal cell……
CHEAPER, than other 3 recommended on TacomaWorld………
Besides cost, it was just too easy, great Customer Service……..highly recommend.
6yr/75K……$610………so doubled my Toyota warranty coverage for @$18 month during those extra 3 years….

Normally I'd agree for the most part, but the driver's seat of my truck has more electronics than your whole truck, so times have changed.

In 7 years, or months at this point, you aren't going to be able to buy diddly for my truck for less than the warranty cost.

    New Tacoma isn't that different.

I really agree with waiting until later to purchase the warranty, I am in process of purchasing the 10/125k from Troy on my 2022. However just so everyone is away, should you have an accident or decide you want a different ride, you just contact Toyoya Care and cancel the contract. They prorate is refund based on the mileage/or term remaining less a fee for cancelling early. I did that on a 2018 Camry I just traded in on a 2025 Camry.

Not following, if you get into an accident, it's your insurance company that will either repair or junk the vehicle. Nothing to do with warranty. If you're talking about transferring your warranty, that's up to Toyo and it would make sense they would pro-rate the difference.

He is saying that if you need to cancel your warranty due to a sale or it being totaled before the expiration of it then you can call Toyota and get a refund for a prorated amount.

Being new to Toyota and trucks I purchased the wheel & tire and the VSA Platinum 10yr/100k after being pummeled by the finance guy. After reading this thread I'm feeling a bit remorse at the cost paid. I paid cash for the vehicle and extended's and can cancel both before end of month for full refund minus fee.
I'm going to talk with a friend who's in the industry about it before making the call.
It sounded like a good idea at first but the pricing for both is substantially more than reported here.

Not sure if you can get a refund, but most, if not all, initial quotes from the "closer" (finance person) for extended warranties are high. My closer quoted me over $1,400 more (for less coverage) than what I paid, for my current OEM extended warranty. Shop around. The 2 dealerships that I'm aware of on TW (on the west coast and midwest) quote very competitive OEM warranty prices. It's was a no brainer for me.

I think there needs to be more specific context to this ie model and specific trims as I believe there could be a significant impact on the cost based on the trim level. Are these base level trims? Surely an SR5 2 wheel drive would cost significantly less to cover than an OR Premium, Limited, Pro or Trailhunter.

These prices while attractive are no where near what my dealer quoted me, nor what a friend of mine who works in the industry. He quoted me the same coverage for my vin at a price that was within $100. His price was "what he could sell it to me for" and it was a Toyota VSE Platinum vs a Lexus VSE Platinum.

I'm not saying these prices are incorrect, Im just curious about what the coverages are for trim levels.

Also wonder if the state of issuance or residence would impact the cost. Im in CO and the Platinum VSE quoted was $3200 10yr/100k.

They’re close to what I got quoted in California for an off road premium. Maybe an SR is even cheaper

    10year 125k - $2070
    10year 100k -$1545
    9 year 125k - $1915
    9 year 100k - $1435
    8 year 125k - $1670
    8 year 100k - $1255

I paid $1360 for 10 year 100K miles for an OffRoad Premium from Troy. Apparently Toyota no longer sends out a welcome packet unless you ask, I do have the signed contract from Troy.

When i called Toyota directly (800-228-8559 ) they confirmed my warranty and said they would mail me the welcome packet

With Tarrifs, I am even happier I made the decision

YotaWerx Blackhawk 2.0 tuned. Typer Auto tail light guards. Rough Country tri-fold tonneau cover. Start-X remote starter. Injen CAI. MBPR Armor Plus high clearance exhaust.
I bought mine from Troy as well for my 2025 TRD Sport Hybrid. 8yr/125K Toyota Extracare Platinum coverage for $1505, AND no sales tax because I was not a resident of MA.

Awesome guy. Quick response and turn around. Effortless process. Plus, I'm not paying interest on it because I bought it outright for cash.
