Extending wire.

How I go about extending the wire from the battery to the fuse box? Gotta extend it about 6 inches. What gauge wire is it anyone? ASAP thanks.

 

I wouldn't extend it, just get a new piece of wire. If you're dead set on it though use a good butt splice lug, the size of the wire depends on the load you're going to run. I would do a minimum of #2 awg

 

I'd also be inclined to just do a new run rather than trying to extend the existing line.

 

if you have to extend it 4 gauge is best. but you should just run new

 

That be hard to get to. Anyone have a write up on changing the fuse box power wire to the battery terminal

no I haven't done it. but it shouldn't be that hard to do. search for secondary fuse block in the the search it may help you out.

It there, but the original one too short cause I have a bigger battery in there. It too short about 6 inches.

I did this several years ago I just matched the original cable. bought from auto zone and bolted it to the existing one. you do have to take the post clamp off then put it on the end of new cable. should be easy I did it in a auto zone parking lot.

 

don't forget to tape up the splice really good

did you remove the existing stock wire from the fuse box or you just connected another same gauge or bigger wire to the stock wire?

Tape, really???

Heat shrink it, don't use tape.

 

Even better heat shrink with adhesive (hot glue) helps hold the outer insulation together, and waterproof.

 

hey when your in a jam you use what's available

 

No I just put a 5/16 bolt in the two eyelets from the battery clamp. take the battery clamp off the exhisting cable, bolt the cable to the new cable at eyelets. put battery clamp on end of new cable
