Standard disclaimer: I think I searched pretty reasonably and didn't find anything about doing this.

I'm going to be towing an R-Pod with my Taco. I would like to install a wireless reverse camera on the back of the RV, and the display somewhere in the dash area (haven't totally nailed this down yet).

All in all so far pretty easy, right? Except, I still want my tailgate camera to work, since most of the time I'm not going camping (unfortunately).

So, is there a way to hook the new backup camera on the back of the RV into the wire that tells it when I'm in reverse, without making it so the normal tailgate reverse camera doesn't work? Maybe I'm making this out to be way more complicated than it is.

I suppose alternatively, I could just leave the camera going all the time and just not look at it until I'm backing up the RV :D

There must be someone else who has done this.

Does the RV have electric brakes? If so, it should be using the 7 pin connector. If that is the case run a tap off the reverse wire from the trailer tongue back to the camera. If the RV had reverse lights that would make it even better.
So, what pin connector are your trailer lights?
Does the RV have reverse lights?

Yeah it's got electric brakes, reverse lights, and the 7 pin connector. See, that's why I posted this, cuz I knew someone would have an easy answer :)

Ill be doing the same thing at some point....Thinking the “front camera anytime” mod might be a solution. Do a search for front camera and you’ll see what I’m talking about. If I get this finished before you do I’ll post something up. Also towing an R-Pod 179.

I think it is the HAI's front camera cable mod thread, I bought one and it is easy to install and works well. Let you use the rear camera anytime OR add a second camera if you want.

Just a heads up. They may have some good wireless cams on the market but I know 2 guys that installed them on older trucks and in just the distance from the rear bumper to the dash, the reception is horrible.

Im one of them- still doing adjustments to my setup. I am considering wiring a shielded lead to a antenna in front of the trailer to get it a bit closer to the receiver monitor up front.

Could it work mounted to the third brake light, maybe? or do you have a camper? Edit: I figured out you want a cam mounted to the rear of the trailer, ignore me please, sorry. In left field playin with bugs!

Rostra Accessories 250-8631-3BL (plugs into your factory camera connector and shows video on your in-dash screen when in reverse). Reconnect your tailgate camera when the RV is disconnected.

Took me a couple months but I came up with a solution you guys might be interested in. I designed a module that plugs inline with the tailgate camera and automatically senses when the camera equipped trailer is connected and changes the video feed on the headunit to the trailer camera when in reverse.

Here is a thread I just started... https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tw-made-me-build-a-magic-automatic-trailer-camera-module.546716/
