I have one, using the rope handle as it is plenty long to stand up straight and pull without having to bend over and I am 6'2" (See the last pic I took)

I have a 35Q Pelican; I like it a lot. It's heavy, but so are all the other well insulated coolers.

I like the latches on the Pelican, they're more robust.

New they might well do that. Two things work in their favor then.

    1. The rotomolded coolers actually need to be precooled. A cooler doesn't "cool", it INSULATES. Therefor, if it starts off warm, it will try its absolute best to STAY warm. Thereby initially, ice will melt in them MUCH faster.

    2. The Igloo and Coleman type coolers have an inner and outer shell, with foam insulation between. This works fantastic (for a while). After several uses, the inside area of these will "sweat" like a glass of cold beer on a table. This will wet the insulation inside, causing it to lose its insulating ability.

I keep a cooler with ice and drinks in the back of my truck year round. My Yeti paid for itself in ice savings inside a year. That's buying ice in these free standing "Twice the Ice" type buildings, where you can usually buy 16-24 lbs of ice under $2. Had I been buying ice at gas stations, where it's usually $2.50+ for 7 lbs it would have paid off in 3-4 months of warm weather.

I've had the cooler 4 years and it works fine. I'd have gone through AT LEAST 5 Igloo/Colemans by now (and yes, I tried a stainless Coleman, same deal), between cheap latches and hinges.

Play the working class hero crap all you want. Believe that everybody buying rotomolded coolers are all suffering from a mass delusion.

This is America. People will buy the best thing for the best price. If it wasn't a workable business model it wouldn't still be around. THEY ARE CHEAPER IN THE LONG RUN. No two ways about it. Of course, that's provided some worthless sum bitch doesn't steal it (got a cable lock on mine).

The theft part is real... Be sure to lock them down. Also if you use a hitch basket, make sure your exhaust doesn't f$@& up your box. Out on the water we use coolers to make a living. I have beat the living shit out of my yetis and they want more. I handled the old coolers with gloves and babied them yet they all died... Every year... Regardless of price. That new igloo sportsman is hanging tough and cost 1/2 as much as a yeti. I like the handles and hardware better than my yetis too.
A styrofoam cooler costs $5.00 and holds ice for a long time too for all you die hard cheap asses!

Like the OP I was looking for a cooler & was debating between the Pelican 65 & Igloo Sportsman 55. I ended up getting the Igloo at Sam's Club for $199 & will be putting it up to the test this weekend. My local Sam's had a bunch of these and I looked at all of them to choose the one that not only aesthetically looked the best, but also had the gasket going all the way around the inside of the lid. My decision between the two basically came down to the price. I'd been looking at all the Walmart stores around me to see if I could find the Pelican on sale as I've seen in a previous post on here ($180 I think was the clearance price) but they all had the coolers going for $299. I couldn't really justify the extra $100 for 10 more quarts and what appeared to be a much larger/taller cooler. The Igloo just seems to fit in the bed better with its much lower profile. I'm hoping to precool the cooler tonight as I'm headed to Beaver's Bend tomorrow for a few days. In any case if it completely sucks or doesn't live up to my expectations, I could always bring it back and go get the Pelican instead.

Yeti is a great box... Sadly they are now made in China. I own the igloo above and it is awesome for the $$$$. You can also order pelicans online @ SAMs club.

Don't go and come on our 15 mile canoe/camping trip down the Sante Fe River. It's a easy float and we hit all the springs on the way. Poe springs, Lilly, blue, Ginnie etc. good time. We got 2 couples going and a few other friends. Should be a blasty blast.

I'm a fan of Yeti, but now there are so many other options I would maybe go another way if I were to go it all over again. I will admit, a $5 styrofoam cooler from the gas station holds ice just as long if you use it as a beer cooler and keep opening the lid all the time. But, I've had ice literally last over a week in my Yeti's when used for food storage. I also will confess I'm a huge sucker for the accessories and swag.

Yeah using them as drink coolers when you open and close them all the time performs just as well as any ole Coleman. I will admit that too.
