Hey Everyone, I have a 2006 Tacoma DB 4X4. it has 160,000 kms. bought it with 98,000 kms from toyota dealer which did a complete brake job on it before i bought it, But now my brakes are getting worse and worse to the point its too dangerous to drive.
Today I tried do a panic stop at 80kms/h just to see what they would do if I actually needed to do a panic stop. The pedal bottoms on the floor, I can actually feel the contact to the floor. And the truck slowly came to a stop. The truck used to skid a tire and activate the ABS, but nothing like that now.

I'm leaning towards the master cylinder as it actually feels like my line pressure builds at first then rapidly fades away.

Rear shoes are good and adjusted up.
    Front pads are good.
There are no external fluid leaks.
    Also bled the brakes

    Anyone ever have this problem?

    Thanks

Sounds like the master, but it could also be a problem in the ABS unit itself (should throw a code though).

Will the pedal come up if you pump it?

A little bit.... seems like it pumps up better without the truck running

If everything in your posts is 100% correct, you need to replace your master cylinder. Be sure to bench bleed the new one, then re-bleed all the brakes. Bench bleeding the new cylinder almost eliminates air being intruduced into the lines and ABS modulator, and saves a lot of hassle. The pedal being more firm with the truck off indicates the booster is working correctly.

That's not unusual. Damn near everything is more expensive at the dealer in my experience.

How do I know if I have VSC? I Don't think I have it... My truck is a 06 Trd Sport. But when I called the dealer and gave them my VIN # they said I do have it....

I ordered a master cylinder without VSC, because my master cylinder looks pretty basic. Two lines coming out, and maybe a low fluid level sensor ?

Just going to state the obvious....

Are you sure there is no air in the system after the bleed? Sometimes the fluid in the reservoir gets low and air gets sucked in or air bubbles from pouring new fluid in.

Did you use the correct brake fluid? Tacoma requires DOT4.

Did you over tighten the bleeders? I have seen this in the shop a few times where the bleeder valves were over tightened and they would not seat properly so there was a small amount of pressure escaping.

These three things will be cheaper than going straight for a master cylinder. I am not insinuating that you don't know what you are doing, just throwing my $0.02 out there in case it might be something you overlooked.

Nixinus.... I am a licensed Heavy Duty Tech. I know what I'm doing. The only reason I asked this question on this site is because there are people on this site that have delt with this issue before and I respect their opinion.

10-4 Sounds like you've gone through the steps. Update when you replace your master.

Rock Auto has master cylinders for $70 (no VSC) or $140 (w/ VSC). If your truck has VSC, there would be a "VSC OFF" button on your dash to the left of the steering column.

Price difference is due to Toyota markup (300%) and dealer markup (extra 30-40%). It is also possible the dealer quoted you on the wrong part. For example, on '09+ TRD Offroad models, you can buy the electric brake pump, master cyl and controller module together for $1700 online, which can easily become $2500 at the dealer counter.
