    I'd had ex down in my 09 and eventually severed the original cable in half. Also using OEM cable creates a bigger gap when tailgate is up.

    Those struts are pretty strong...we have one on our F150 tailgate and it works fine. Two would be too much...

    I did the same thing, but utilized the factory clips (took time to do) and heat shrunk the thin cable. Never had a prob in 3+ years.

    The rubber was accidentally cut when I made it. For the fear or corrosion, I redid the coating a week after I made it.

    Looks like it could work.

    Looks like wire rope, ferrule, and heat shrink...

    The ez down destroyed my factory cable and I got rid of it after that...

    Danny, your cable was much easier to do, I'm sure. I think mine took over a fkg hour to split open the factory ends and re-press it :mad:.

    Your way is just as fine.... and quicker too :thumbsup:

    BTW, I used heavy duty garage door cable (not the thinner stuff).... It is flexible enough to bend when closed.
