I've been researching a new shell to replace my SnugTop Hi-Liner. I need more head room for my extended Baja camping trips. And I have to be aware of weight because I already have about 1500 lbs. of gear that I carry. I've pretty much exhausted all options. Here's what I've looked into:
    - Aluminum frame/skin commercial toppers (ARE, Century, SnugTop, Leer). They won't meet my needs because I want a cab-over to store lightweight gear.
    - Aluminum frame w/ cabover (Tradesman). I need to call them because this could be a contender. I'm sure they're very pricey.
    - Wood 'n' Alum from Bel-Air. The general consensus online is that these would completely fall apart after being subjected to Baja terrain. The wood frame is only stapled together from what I've read.
    - Fiberglass slide-ins (Master, Tufport, SpaceKap, Sterling, Maranda). All of these seem to be made in Canada and COVID has messed things up. So the purchase would be a major hassle. Also, they seem to be pretty expensive (and heavy). Fleetwest makes their Durashell in AZ, but I read a forum post that said they were $11K in 2014, so way out of my budget.
-Metal frame (Callen, Caravan). Although I've read great reviews of both, they are way too heavy for my already overloaded truck. I have read tons of threads about beefing up the rear-suspension, so I'm already aware of that and don't need any recommendations on that topic.

Just the other day, I stumbled upon EZ Lite in San Diego County. I cannot find any user reviews online, which is strange considering how long they've been in business. They make wood-framed custom campers that are screwed, glued, and doweled. So I'm thinking these would be tougher than Bel-Air's "wood 'n' alum" campers, which are only stapled together. Has anyone heard of anyone having an EZ Lite camper? And if so, what's the verdict? The "Fun Sport" model is the one I'm considering. Thanks!

I put the deposit down for tufport as they are the lightest in my expectations, but again COVID messed up all the schedule, earlier I was planning to drive along the coast of CA-OR-WA and to tufport site and pick and now i have been looking for freight load and saying that for about 700 $ they carrier can bring to me in ARIZ. I am still fixated on. Currently I have a box camper box that can sleep 4 ( even 7 if people can get along) and has TV and connection to shore power and I busted the sliding window to push out AC when needed. I will post pics of it. Though this is on my 2008 LB Tundra, Now i am planning to put tufport on my 2019TACO

Those Tufports look really nice. But the logistics due to COVID really threw a wrench into the works. I decided on a Tradesman custom cabover. I visited them two weeks ago to place my order and give a deposit. I wish you the best of luck with your new camper. Hopefully it won't be too much of a hassle getting it delivered and installed.

I have a setup that you may be interested in built from a Maranda slide in.

Search on Maranda - it's in the for sale items.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    cheers!

Thanks for the heads up, but I sold my Tacoma 2 months ago and bought a Tundra DoubleCab. I ordered my custom Tradesman several weeks ago. Good luck with your sale!
